Colts over Bills. Think the Colts want to go into the playoffs losing two in a row and having half the players wondering what kind of Nancy they have coaching them? Painter stays on the sidelines with his watercolors, Brohm wishes he was back at Louisville, and Colts win by two touchdowns.

Panthers over Saints. I don’t care if the Saints care about winning this one or not, the Panthers are just playing like a better team right now. Moore nails down a starting job for next year.

Bears over Lions. Betting on the Lions is a good way to lose money, especially when they’re playing their 3rd string quarterback.

Steelers make it 3 in a row. Both these teams have problems, but the Dolphins’ are worse. They might win the division next year, but this season’s over for them.

Vikings over Giants. The Giants and Vikings are both playing like crap right now. Both lost to the Panthers, but the Giants lost bigger.

Bucs over Falcons. The Bucs have Matt Ryan’s number.

Niners over Rams. If the Rams were playing Villanova, I might take even odds.

Pats over the Texans. The Texans look like a playoff team right now - shame they won’t make it.

Browns over the Jags, against my better judgment. Hard to see the Browns winning 4 in a row, but they seem to have something going.

Eagles over the Cowboys. This is the big one, and these are the two hottest teams in the NFC, other than the Packers. The Eagles just look better, though, and it’s about time we saw the Tony “Mr. December” Romo we all know and love.

Broncos over the Chiefs. No more freak upsets for KC.

Chargers over the Skins. Zorn is sorta playing for his job (he’s gone either way), Campbell is playing for a job somewhere, and I think the rest of the team want to help them both, but the Redskins are a mess. The Chargers, on the other hand, want to keep their streak going and probably want to help Rivers stay undefeated in December.

Titans over the Seahawks. The Titans caught a bad break having to play the Chargers last week, and the Seahawks have completely gone down the toilet.

Raiders over the Ravens. I’ll take a flyer on Charlie Frye ending the Ravens’ season.

Cardinals over the Packers. The Cards have more to play for.

Jets over the Bengals. I actually don’t think this will be close, even if the Bengals do play their starters (they probably won’t if the Patriots win). I agree with Rodney Harrison - the Bengals aren’t as good as people think, and they backed into the championship of a surprisingly weak division. The big thing, though - Ochocinco is a huge part of their offense, and Darrelle Revis will shut him down, just like he has every other marquee receiver he’s faced.

Good thoughts from everyone. A few of mine: Will the Colts deliberately throw the game against the Bills? The Indianapolis brass has been throwing out increasingly stupid statements, like that they'd set goals of having the longest home winning streak, the longest regular season winning streak, but didn't think an undefeated season was that important. Teddy Bruschi called them out on the NFL network, and the NY Daily news ran a picture with the caption "Thanks, Dolts!" I don't know how it will play out, but the Colts turned their backs on a chance at history.

I don't think the Saints rest their starters against the Panthers, cause they may not have anything to play for, but they need to get back on track. I don't know if they will, though.

Titans-Seahawks: Against the Chargers, the Titans pass defense looked as bad as it did when the team opened 0-6. Course the Seahawks aren't the Chargers.

On the Browns-Jaguars, the Jags have faint playoff hopes, but they're on a three game losing streak and the Browns are on a three game winning streak, although the Jags have played the tougher schedule.

Whew! I'm joining Big 'ol and doing some more number crunching before making the rest of my picks. On the Steelers-Fins, last week I said I didn't even think the referee special sauce the Steelers always get would be enough. Well, I didn't think even the officials would have the guts to run 113 yards in penalties for the Ravens to 20 for the Steelers and call back two touchdowns.

The more I read, the more I think this thing with the Colts is going to steamroll. Half the comments from the Cardinals sounded like direct rebukes of the Colts. Comments like, “How much rest do you get from skipping 35 snaps” were direct shots. Dittos for quotes from McCarthy: “We talked about it as a football team and we’re going to keep playing,” said McCarthy, whose team has won six of seven. “The players want to play. The coaches want to play. I think it’s in the best interest of our football team to keep playing. Anytime you get to a point where you’re in sync and you’re in rhythm and you have some momentum, we’re like to keep that going.”

The Cards know how big this game potentially could be. If everything works out for them, they’re the 2 seed and get that big week off. But even given a 3 seed is better than a 4, so with the home crowd behind them, for Green Bay to win......don’t see it happening!!!

Did yer check yer FRmail???

Just for fun, here’s how the playoffs break down if my picks are right:

NFC
1. Saints (13-3)
2. Eagles (12-4)
3. Vikings (12-4)
4. Cardinals (11-5)
5. Packers (10-6)
6. Cowboys (10-6)

AFC
1. Colts (15-1)
2. Chargers (13-3)
3. Patriots (11-5)
4. Bengals (10-6)
5. Jets (9-7)
6. Steelers (9-7)

Eliminated this week: Broncos (9-7), Ravens (8-8), Texans (8-8), Dolphins (7-9), Jaguars (7-9).

Here’s how my tiebreakers worked out. The Jets, Steelers, and Broncos end up tied at 9-7, and everyone else is below that and eliminated. In the 3-way tie for the 5 seed, the Steelers are eliminated first on conference records (7-5, 7-5, 6-6), then the Jets get the tie breaker against the Broncos on common games (4-1, 3-2). That leaves the Steelers and Broncos tied for the 6 seed, and the Steelers take that on the head-to-head win.

This conforms to the scenario on the scenario on the CBS site, but I wanted to work it through myself.

Since we’re having fun, here’s how I think the playoffs will go.

WILD CARD
Packers at Cardinals - Packers
Cowboys at Vikings - Vikings
Jets at Bengals - Jets
Steelers at Patriots - Patriots

DIVISION
Vikings at Eagles - Eagles
Packers at Saints - Packers
Jets at Colts - Colts
Patriots at Chargers - Chargers

CONFERENCE
Packers at Eagles - Packers
Chargers at Colts - Chargers

SUPER BOWL XLIV
Packers vs. Chargers - Chargers

There we have it, gentlemen. Unless I’ve totally missed something....

Wow, I must have missed that. He’s a hell of an athlete, and I think he might be playing his way to the #1 pick tonight, especially if Eric Berry doesn’t declare.

Suh or Berry ought to be #1, but the Rams need a QB so badly that they might take Jake Locker if he changes his mind and goes into the draft, or take Jimmy Clausen if he doesn’t. They could probably trade down a few spots and still get Clausen, and I think that would be their best bet, but it’ll take some fancy dealing and good intel on who the other teams are looking at.

Okay, this week's thoughts. Buffalo is bad and the Colts are good, and the game means nothing. The Colts are feeling the heat from throwing away a perfect season, so they can't play their starters without catching more heat. Meaningless games are hard to figure.

The Ravens and Jets have guaranteed "win and in"scenarios.

I picked the way it needs to fall for my Cowboys to get the #2 seed, cause I don't want to root against my picks, although I have a hard time seeing the Packers beating the Cardinals, particularly since the Cards have more to play for. The Vikings and Saints have the best records, but have both entered into late season swoons. Does anyone else notice that Favre sounds like an automotron in press conferences?

The Titans will beat the Seahawks, but they need to blow up their secondary during the off season.

The Jaguars have faded with the playoffs on the line a lot, and the Browns are really looking up, but I'm still going with the Jags, cause they theoretically have something to play for.

I wonder what kind of pep talk a team gives, when like the Broncos, they have to win and hope for a combination of Jets-Ravens-Arkansas Razorbacks loss.

Couple of notes on today's games: BTW, I'm not reposting the chart, but am changing my Jags-Browns pick to Browns. I'll update on next chart posting:

Texans owner has not committed to Kubiak coming back next year. Saints have announced they'll sit Brees and a couple of other starters. With the Chargers and Redskins it's antoher game that means nothing, but few people think the Skins have enough to pull it out against the Chargers second string.
