Fair enough.
[but how many average player/stock rock licks/unoriginal records have *you* sold?]

BUCKET HEAD is the best guitarist hands down. Forward to 1:48 in the video to see the good stuff.

Too bad people rarely pay attention to the lyrics of that song.

I like Rik Emmett also. I remember learning ‘Petite Etude’ when I was younger.

Sorry, but mere distortion doesn't do it for me.
I don't even think (btw) that Keaggy is the most expressive -- for that Joe Satriani is better;
or the best able to tell a musical "story"
-- for that Al DiMeola is better;
or the best able to keep his fingers from tying themselves in knots ;
-- for that Alan Holdsworth was better (RIP)
or the best at multiple melody lines;
-- for that go to Jordan, as our friend PugetSoundSoldier points out.
But Keaggy is the master of so freaking *many* styles; and has done things years or decades before other people began to catch up.
He was using volume swells in 1971 - 1972 when still just a teenager with Glass Harp; I saw him using E-bows in concert in 1978 or so; he learned fingerpicking and his Beyond Nature was voted one of the top three fingerstyle acoustic albums of all time...
The guy is frigging versatile.
Cheers!

One other one to make your eyes and ears pop.
This time from Nick Beggs on the Chapman Stick:
He is Graig Nettles to Jordan's Brooks Robinson.
Cheers!

One of my favorite things about Triumph was the instumentals and the rare jazzy tune that you might get on one of their albums. I love Suitcase Blues (Just a Game) and also Little Boy Blues (Thunder Seven). I still listen to him. He has mellowed out but that is ok with me (so have I). Petite Etude is also one on my favs.

I hate to ask but was Warren Beatty ever jealous of Steve Vai's fingers?
Cheers!
