Filmmaker James Cameron is famous for blockbusters like Titanic and The Terminator. His latest movie, Avatar, just opened after a massive media blitz during which Cameron himself hit the talk show circuit, along with his on-screen stars. Since the high-tech 3-D film may have cost $300 million to make, Cameron is highly motivated to promote the film so as to recover the costs and make a profit. And herein lies the contradiction between the film's story and the filmmaker's own life.

Cameron's native Canada is one of Day's supplanting societies, just like the United States and Australia. Cameron is in every way the product of what his ideology condemns. He has no desire to surrender his mansions and jet-setting parties to live in a rainforest with half-clad tribesmen. Indeed, at age 55, he would probably be dead by now in such an environment. And as he markets Avatar around the world, ticket sales will track income, and his profits will come from those nations and enclaves that are the legacy of imperialism. So between "us" and "them," Cameron has done in his real life what any sane person would do: He has chosen "us."

Another Michael Moore! Moore would feed a family of 30 cannibals living in a rain forest but he chooses to live in America while eating Big Macs and talking about capitalism’s deforestation of South America for cattle raising. And the consumer rushes out to support the nonsense, as usual.
This movie was technology vs nature. There are just so many archetypes one can use. He could have i suppose based it on Rome conquering other countries but maybe they weren’t technologically advanced enough. Perhaps Nazi Germany but Europe wasn’t so in touch with nature at the time and that fight,initially one sided from an armaments standpoint (Polish cavalry)or tactics (duh French)did not stay so for a long time.
Any European contact with the new world or Africa would have been alright to use but again,the differences between repeating rifles vs bows and arrows or a Spanish conquistador loading his rifle one shot a time is not quite the stark contrast.
At the end of the day,when a technologically superior civilization meets one not so advanced,one perhaps more nature based,there will be problems.
I’d love to know just what civilization the critics would model the story on?
Don’t forget,there are stories out there where we,planet Earth,is the backward civilization and ends up on the short end of the stick.
Oh and one last thing. The story doesn’t make every earth person evil. I watched it and didn’t feel like i was linked to the evil humans or the scientists. I enjoyed it for what it was.
It's like ingesting a little poison. It won't kill you, but you are in real trouble if you take too much. A little propaganda won't destroy a society's values, but a lot will -- especially if the propaganda is expensive and well done.

If you wish to see propaganda,you will. I can look at most anything and understand it can and will be interpreted many ways. That’s what makes everyone different.

I haven't seen this movie, but one thing about the reviews has struck me.
If the natives are good enough at combat to beat the invaders, presumably it's because they've had a lot of practice. That practice would presumably have been on each other. I bet that gets left out of the story, with the natives all being Ghandi until whitey shows up.
Another thing that bugs me is the claim that this story line is original. The basic theme has been one of the most common SF story lines for the last 40 years. I bet there are at least 15 or 20 Star Trek (in its various versions) episodes where it plays out. Even one of the Star Wars movies had this basic plot. Ewoks and all that.
One I can think of. My understanding is that Ralph Nader has lived a highly ascetic life for the last 40 years.
You are in general correct, but there are exceptions.
What is rather puzzling about these movie makers is - Do they realize without the Free Enterprise, Capitalism, our wonderful republic (what is left if the republic) that they, the fat cat elitist who drink their champagne and laugh at people such as us, would not make the money they make should Obama and his gulag actually have their way?
How many offshore accounts do the hypocrites have their money hidden in so they, the hypocrites, do not pay taxes to the United States government? My money and the money of many family, friends, and colleagues will not be given to make the hypocritical HOLLOWood guttersnipes richer.
It makes a liberal “feel good” to talk about Global Warming and the environment and to pass ridiculous laws (without understanding the real consequences). Liberals are the ultimate hypocrites.

Its original i think in the way they get humans into the alien population,otherwise no. What i meant by the Euros not being in touch with nature was the industrial revolution,something not in the storyline in Avatar.
I have seen the movie and nothing about warfare among clans is mentioned nor is there any hint of friction between the tribes. I can understand that storyline not being covered,time constraints and all that,but the briefest of mentions would have been possible.
Overall though,it doesn’t take away from the movie. After all,they are aliens and perhaps we are attempting to put our experiences into the framework of the movie.
James Cameron didn’t have to make a film that was jam packed with leftist themes and cliches. The fact that he did shows that he was out to preach a leftist sermon.
I must respectufully disagree with your suggestion that liberals do not understand the real consequences of the laws they inflict. Most liberals are very smart people, and they know full well that their ideas will cripple and ultimately destroy this country. This is exactly why they inflict them upon us.
If liberalism is to be defeated, then we must move beyond the notion that most liberals are idiots who do not know any better.
