There was a lot of excitement last week about the discovery of a waterworld planet called GJ 1214b, as reported on Discovery News by my colleague Ian ONeill.
This world belongs to an emerging class of planets dubbed super-Earths. It is 6.5 times Earths mass and nearly three times our diameter. Its mass, diameter and density suggest the planet is largely a ball of water with and icy/rocky core.

A ball of water with an icy/rocky core? Not likely. Ice floats. I don’t think that law of physics is going to change anywhere.

I doubt it. Life as we know it is extremely rare.

ANother immutable law of the universe is that AgencyPersons will try to grow their bureaucracy with any and all excuses.
One can only hope that none of the nice AgencyPersons at the South Florida Water Management hear of this “newly discovered water resource”.
Count on them wanting to increase taxes sufficient to permit importation of that water to meet the water crisis they claim FloriDUH suffers from.

Can We Find A Living Planet by 2020? Let's hope we find it before it finds us...

“I doubt it. Life as we know it is extremely rare.”
Found any yet?
Out of 52,000,000,000,000 known galazies each with 300,000,000,000,000 stars... yep I could see how life would be rare...
So let’s see the number od stars is 300*52=15,600 followed by 24 zeros.
Yep very long odds.

LOL! Maybe that idiot Bill Nelson (the other idiot Dem Nelson) will demand NASA spend $900 billion to send a ship to outer space to get water to refill Lake Ockeechobee after SFWM drains the lake again.

I am not convinced that life as we recognize it is not a fluke. The discovery of such a planet would be quite a exciting discovery and answer some questions. At the distances that they are being viewed it would be hard to tell if there was anything more sophisticated then single celled organisms there. We need to have some intelligent race come visit us across the stars, that would settle the issue. Life may exist in stranger forms then our minds imagine even closer to home. I would be surprised if we do find a planet with life as we know it, we would want to settle it, all strains of bacteria there might prove lethal to us. It would be better to learn how to create artificial environments.

On the DISCOVERY link, the statement was made that they are trying to find exo-planets from which UFOs and Aliens might be coming.
On his TV program, “It’s Supernatural” this past Sunday, Sid Roth, a Messianic Jew, had Chuck Missler as his guest. Chuck has held very important positions in the U.S. Missile programs, etc., and he has a totally different take on where the UFOs and Aliens might be coming from. He also has statements from several form NASA Astronauts who saw and reported UFOs while on space missions.
For anyone interested in learning his slant on it, here is a link to Sid’s website and the Missler video.

If the above link should not work, if you copy and paste it into your browser it will work fine. When you get to Sid’s website, the Missler video will be right there, and a choice to open it with REAL Player or Windows Media Player.

living planet?
You mean a rock with life on it?
Can spectronomy find out whether there is life on a world? Can we “see” what color a distant world is?
I have lots of questions

We need to have some intelligent race come visit us across the stars, that would settle the issue. Because they are intelligent, they choose not to visit Earth!

I hope so. A waterworld 6x larger than earth sounds a lot better than the MarxistWorld 0bama is leaving our children and grandchildren.

The odds of discovering life in another galaxy are essentially zero. In this solar system if there's microbial life on Mars, or "marine" life under a frozen surface of a Jovian or Saturnian moon, we're most likely going to have to visit in person to find it. That would seem to narrow those numbers quite a bit.

Life is extremely rare on Earth. Even more so if one includes the Solar System.
It's what we know and what we observe.

Lake Okeechobee may drain its self,if the Army Corps and Water Mis-Management doesn’t either stop keeping the water level above the designed maximum and/or repair the levee.
Typical results of a large agency.
