I am not convinced that life as we recognize it is not a fluke. The discovery of such a planet would be quite a exciting discovery and answer some questions. At the distances that they are being viewed it would be hard to tell if there was anything more sophisticated then single celled organisms there. We need to have some intelligent race come visit us across the stars, that would settle the issue. Life may exist in stranger forms then our minds imagine even closer to home. I would be surprised if we do find a planet with life as we know it, we would want to settle it, all strains of bacteria there might prove lethal to us. It would be better to learn how to create artificial environments.

We need to have some intelligent race come visit us across the stars, that would settle the issue. Because they are intelligent, they choose not to visit Earth!
