Mac clone maker's lawyer says another attorney misquoted; Psystar not out of business, but site is down Although Mac clone maker Psystar has turned off the lights at its Web site, the firm is not shutting down permanently, the company's lawyer said today.

Contrary to a report on Thursday by the Dow Jones Newswire (subscription required), Psystar is not shutting down for good, said K.A.D. Camara, of the Houston, Texas firm Camara & Sibley LLP.

Camara represents Psystar in a lawsuit the company filed in a Miami federal court last August that accuses Apple of violating several antitrust laws.

“The Dow Jones story quoted Eugene Action,”

If I need a lawyer, I want to hire a guy named Eugene Action.

What of all those eager-to-cheap users who bought a Psystar computer with OS-X on it... their support agreement and $0.50 will get them a cup of coffee now.

Sure hope they're good at doing their own servicing... 'cause if they take it to a PC shop and it's got OS-X on it, nobody in their right mind will touch it.

They sold a couple hundred boxes, didn't they? Maybe they'll form a self-help group...

It seems natural for lawyers to want to keep a case going if they think they are going to get paid. Maybe they are aware of some “deep pockets” involved.

The lawyer quoted this time is from a Houston, TX law firm. They may be eying the plaintiff friendly jury pool in East Texas for an appeal or a new suit.

Well..., this is how it will work for those 700-some idiots who bought these boxes...

They will be the ones who will post on forums and boards that they'll never buy another Apple product again, because Apple refused to help them, even though they bought a brand new computer -- and besides that, the product was crappy anyway, and they can't figure out why anyone buys crappy Apple products when they're this bad... LOL...

Some people are just idiots and those who bought anything from Psycho-star are classified as idiots.

Camara represents Psystar in a lawsuit the company filed in a Miami federal court last August that accuses Apple of violating several antitrust laws.

The Dow Jones story quoted Eugene Action, a Fresno, Calif. lawyer who represented Psystar in the lawsuit Apple filed with a San Francisco federal court in 2008. "They will not be in business," Action said, adding that Psystar President Rudy Pedraza would be "shutting things down immediately" by firing the company's eight employees.

Well, it's clear where the confusion comes from -- they "lying Pedrazas"... LOL...

They tell one lawyer one thing, to satisfy that court and then they tell another lawyer something else, regarding another case in another state...

They're just lying through their teeth. They would fit better off in the drug dealing culture where they came from... :-)

Ummmm..., in this case, you see if the client's mouth is moving... LOL...

In fact, it was many years that some early acquaintances of the Pedrazas finally realized that "lying" wasn't the first name of Pedraza, since they had only heard it said "lying Pedraza" so many times... :-)

When I hear that, being from Oregon -- I think that someone is talking about some left wing, liberal political action group based in Eugene... :-)

Or maybe the agents from the company in Tajikistan, who sold Pysho-star the beige boxes that they used to put the Mac OS X on, came on by and repossessed those $9.97 computers so the "money-behind-the-scenes" could set up another front organization to try and whack Apple again... LOL...

By the way, those Tajikistan computers do come pre-loaded with all the necessary al Qaeda diagrams and manuals that you may need, too... :-)

Well, "idiots" is IMO not quite fair -- a high percentage are savvy geeks who knew the risk and took it to get an "open" machine that promised greater access and control. That's not idiotic at all -- I use Linux on my servers for the same reason.

Probably those geeks are not disappointed today -- they can service the machines themselves, just as I do with my Linux boxes. They can't upgrade the OS, but hey, I have lots of machines with 5-yr old OS software on them, running just fine.

But given the high likelihood of Psystar getting blown out of the water (just as occurred), I would say "suckers" is closer to the mark for all the rest of the non-geek Psystar customers, who are now high and dry.

The ones who get a machine themselves and research the information and do the "geek work" themselves, are not the idiots that I'm referring to.

I haven't classified them in there, and I say to them... if y'all can do that for yourselves and you want to put that much effort and time into it -- they obviously this interests you and you should "go for it" -- and I have no problem with that.

It's the other "idiots" from the consumer world, who couldn't even do the first step on something like that that we'll be hearing from in the future, saying that an Apple reseller sold them a stupid machine that doesn't work, that they went out of business and Apple won't stand behind their products... LOL...

And, for those who want to run Linux, I commend them for being so diligent and hard-working as to go through all that... :-) I don't call them idiots either...

Here's a thought. Let's assume Psystar sold at most around 1000 machines with OS-X on them (probably about right). Let's further assume Apple wants to be really nice (unlikely, but possible) and generate some good PR.

Apple announces an "amnesty credit" for Psystar customers, saying that if you bring your Psystar computer to an Apple store with the paid invoice/receipt, you can get the purchase price (of the Psystar) in credit against a real Mac of your choice, no hassles, no questions (other than producing the paperwork and hardware). Time limit, say 90 days.

Cost to Apple is negligible (a couple hundred thou in exchange credit), they sell some product, get some Psystars off the street, and it clears up any question about Apple being the good guys. Would it work? Would they do it?

That would be nice... but I would suggest Apple only give the customers 1/2 of what the Psycho-star computer cost, and then apply that to a Macintosh purchase at the Apple Retail Store, and only in an Apple Retail Store.

I don't believe in rewarding stupidity, so the people should pay something for being idiots.

But, I guess having the people pay 1/2 of the cost of a Psycho-star computer would be enough to drive the point home to the idiots... LOL...

The bigger question -- here -- is if the anti-Mac idiots who bought those machines would do it... LOL...

Interesting thought... It would be good PR, certainly, and would stake out the high ground.
