Tiger Woods’ Wife Elin 'Wants Half His Fortune' as She Prepares to Meet Divorce Lawyers
The Daily Mirror (UK) ^ | 12/16/09 | Ryan Parry

Tiger Woods’ devastated wife has called in California’s top celebrity divorce lawyer, say her friends.

And Elin Nordegren – rocked by her husband’s string of alleged affairs – could get half the £337.5million he has earned in the five years they have been married.

The 29-year-old Swedish model, seen out in Florida yesterday minus her wedding ring, is believed to be meeting celebrity lawyer Sorrell Trope next week.

Trope, 82, a partner in Californian law firm Trope and Trope, has represented big-name stars including Cary Grant, Nicole Kidman, Nicolas Cage and Britney Spears in a 60-year career.

And in another blow to Woods, Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California – where the couple have a home – and not Florida, where they live.

Under California law the “no-fault divorce”, introduced in 1970, means there is an equal division of assets and property.

This could mean that any pre-nup agreement Elin signed with the golf star will be torn up.

A source said: “Mr Trope is the best divorce lawyer in the business and the divorce laws in California are much more favourable than most other states.

“Elin can fight for half of what her husband has earned since they were married. And Trope can bust through any pre-nup – he’s done it many times before.”

Last night, when asked if he was representing Woods’ wife as her divorce lawyer, Trope replied: “Not right now.”

Friends say Elin will spend Christmas in Orlando with the couple’s children, daughter Sam Alexis, two, and son Charlie Axel, 10 months, before filing for divorce in the New Year.

Multiple adulterous affairs doesn’t indicate, at least to me, a responsible parent. A responsible parent is on who does his best to provide for his family and is monogamous and true to his marriage vows. And it wouldn’t matter to me whether it was she or he, same rules apply.

So can I assume that you would join me in promoting a new national law that says any woman who engages in an affair is legally defined as "not a responsible parent" and her children are immediately taken away from her and "handed" to the father who controls any further contact with the mother. LMAO

As for the endorsement deals he was doing just fine before her and would have done fine with them had he not married her.

He hurt himself far more by creating this illusion then he would have as a single bachelor. Check LeBron’s earning power. He doesn’t have a clean rep and is doing just fine in endorsements.

Agreed. As Ivana Trump said “Don’t get mad, get everything!” I hope Elin tests negative for STDs-no money is enough if she contracted anything from his dalliances.

“they have what I’ll call a high gold digger quotient. “

Oh please. HE was the one hounding HER to go out with him! She said NO at first. She isn’t/wasn’t some floozy/groupie slobbering after him. It’s absolutely disgusting to try to knock her down to somehow hold him on his pedestal. He’s done.

What if she was a pawn in his “squeaky clean image”? He wanted to project “family guy”. She dutifully played the faithful wife, watching his games and bearing his children. So she surely was part of the advertisements which is 90% of his earning power.

As a starter and I have no idea if this is even near accurate:

California Residency Requirements

To file for divorce in California, either you or your spouse must have lived in:

If you and your spouse have lived in California for at least 6 months but in different counties for at least 3 months, you can file in either county.

If you don't meet the residency requirement, you can still file for a legal separation.

Once enough time has passed so that you meet the residency requirement for a divorce, you may file an "amended petition" and ask the court for a divorce.

Going to? Might have?

Nothing stopped her from pursuing it.

Sorry, no.

I don’t know the woman. And apparrently I never knew Woods either. I’m not going to invest sympathy in either of them knowing so little of their characters.

The extent I know is that Tiger is a cheat. Beyond that I don’t care. Divorce. She’s entitled to something but not everything. Not half. The kids should be taken care of course. The only thing that would change my mind is if he passed on some sexual disease to her. Then I’d say have at him. Take it all.

Yes. This “gold digger” nonsense is quite maddening. At least get the facts straight before throwing the woman into the gutter like some are doing here. She comes from a VERY well-to-do family and spurned him for some time with his advances.

Tiger wasn’t lying. He seems to view his wife, two kids and 14 gals on the side as his family.

CA is the worst at creating “new law”. CA gave us the no-fault divorce and 1/2 the assets and the idea that a word can have several meanings...look up Justice Traynor.

Indeed, I wonder if his endorsement power, at least for brands like Nike, would in fact have been HIGHER if he had cultivated an image as a bachelor golf stud, rather than as a boring family man. When it comes to celebrities young people these days seem to look up more to the playboy mentality than to the responsible family person mentality.

I don’t understand why people think stay at home moms/wives with no income are not entitled to half in a divorce. Do they not bring value to a marriage?

I would join in promoting such a law … bring it own. I don’t care which parent is the irresponsible one. Still wondering what you point is? LMAO notwithstanding.

NIKE & Gatorade yes, then rest of them, probably not. Accenture, Tag Heuer, Buick all cater to older and more educated & affluent consumer - all people who are much more likely to be married with children.

LeBron makes a fortune from NIKE, but not a lot from anyone other single endorser. It's interesting that last year, Tiger was #1 with endorsements and Phil Mickelson was #2. LeBron was 3rd amongst all other athletes - which considering his $120 million NIKE contract, isn't surprising.

That guidance seems to me to beg the question of what it means to “live in” California. I suspect that like a lot of states it throws you back to a statutory definition having to do with “intent” to establish a domicile.

Quite surprising to see Mickelson at no.2 and ahead of LeBron! Very interesting.

There are four members of the Woods family.
Divide it up into four equal parts:
25% share each for Tiger, Elin, the daughter and the son.
On top of that, take from Tiger’s 25% share a portion for physical, emotional, etc. damages he caused to Elin.
Seems fair to me!
