It's said that we have trouble appreciating what we have until it is gone.
Well, it took me a while, but I've come to appreciate Kurt Warner and what he brings to the Arizona Cardinals.
Don't get me wrong - I never disliked the guy. I knew he was a great QB and an even better person off the field. But, I didn't think he could get the team to a Super Bowl and thus, I saw no point in continuing forward with the aging veteran instead of trying to find a younger, long-term replacement.
Aside from the fact that I was wrong about the Super Bowl, where I really messed up was failing to understand - and enjoy - what the Cardinals had at the QB position.
What the Cardinals have is one of the all-time greats, a player who (along with Ken Whisenhunt) is directly responsible for the team's transformation from a laughingstock to Super Bowl contender.
Over the last four games Warner has done something only the legendary Johnny Unitas did before, and that's have a QB rating over 120 in four straight games. Now, I'm not going to sit here and try to explain the QB rating system since it is as convoluted as the BCS computer but I will tell you that, having watched each game, Warner is playing as good as any QB in league, and probably as good as any QB can possibly play.
Over the four games: 261 yards and five touchdowns. 340 yards and two touchdowns. 203 yards and two touchdowns (in one half of football). 285 yards and three touchdowns.

I’ve thought he had what it took to get to the Superbowl back when he played with the Rams.
I guess this author didn’t remember when the Rams were the best team in the NFL with Warner.
Kurt is like Brett, writ a bit smaller.
When he is on his game, he is unstoppable and he clearly loves the game and has that required learn-and-move-on memory that great QBs have.
But he tends to drop into tendencies and those tendancies are read by defenses and used against him. That is why he was pick-city the hear after his SB.
I also like the guy and hope does well. But this year, “pretty darn good” isn’t going very deep into the playoffs (as it did year before last).
That whole season was a Disney movie and yet he missed it. weird.
God bless him and he and his wife are generous with their time and money. He is a blessing to many.
And maybe they changed their play calling with the lead, but it's clear that the Cardinals are a much different team with Warner at the helm.
Hard to say where he fits in with the others all-time, but he is clearly one of the best of our era.
Oh noooooo! My Niners will be left out in the cold by Kurt tonight!
Was speaking to a former pro player not too long ago about how much faster Pro is vs.College. Kurt makes is look easy compared to Matt.
Well there’s a difference between getting that version of the Rams to the SB and getting any version of the Cards (which prior to last year had 2 playoff victories in the entire 80+ year history of the franchise) to the SB.
I agree completely. The Cards were the LA Clippers of the NFL, and nothing seemed to ever improve. I also agree with the comments that when he is hot, there is no one better-—not Manning, not Brees. But he can get into tendencies that can cost him, unfortunately, as I HATE the Steelers.
He's HOF material, in the Phil Simms or Jim Plunkett sense. He's not one of the all-time greats.
I would say he is top 15 QB of all time, clearly a HOF player.....Cards will be in for it tonight though, I think they blew their wad last week. Just a feelin’
God bless him and he and his wife are generous with their time and money. He is a blessing to many.
One of the nicest people I have ever met. They have been blessed for how they live their lives. Met them in a Red Robin in Chesterfield MO right after he had surgery on this hand. I hated to see him go, mainly because the Rams have not had a QB yet.
It’s like they saw this discussion before the game last night and decided to prove us right. Holy crow the Cards stunk it up. 7 turn overs, 4 sacks allowed, 11 accepted penalties against.
Ok, given that logic, we need to have a discussion about how the Cowboys will suddenly turn it on, beat the Saints, and make the playoffs. :)
I prefer the Cowboys in full fledged meltdown mode. I like that constipated look Jones gets.
