You've Got Mail, But the Mailman Hid It (overpaid, whiny union USPS thieves)

You've Got Mail, But the Mailman Hid It By YVONNE NAVA Updated 1:53 PM EST, Mon, Dec 14, 2009

If your mother-in-law's mail goes through the Waterbury or Wallingford post offices, she might not have received the birthday card you sent in time.

Apparently managers at the post office have been hiding mail, Ray Arcovio, president of the Waterbury area postal worker’s union, told the Waterbury Republican-American. And he wants to sincerely apologize.

Workers have been stuffing mail into closets and unused rooms at mail facilities in Waterbury and Wallingford because they don’t know how to keep up with such a high volume of mail, he told the newspaper.

"They're just pushing it aside for the next day," Arcovio told the paper. "We've had issues with them hiding the mail.

In an effort to cut back on costs, the postal service now transfers mail processing from Waterbury to Wallingford.

Arcovio says the problem is being handled.

"We have dealt with it and got the assurance it wouldn't happen again," he told the Republican American. "The employees who see it and are aware of it are fearful to speak out about it for fear of repercussions."

I stood in line last week at the Post Office to buy two books of Christmas stamps (because they took out the stamp machine). It would have been a 1 minute, $40 purchase. I watched in dismay as the single postal worker spent 25 minutes “taking care” of a man who mailed 3 small boxes for a grand total of $10. Five people behind me and two people in front of me, threw up the hands and headed out for FedEx or UPS. That transaction didn’t covered her salary, much less the handlers in back and the truck drivers and/or pilots. And they wonder why the run billion+ dollar deficits.

A retired friend of mine used to sit on the balcony of his second story condo in Clearwater and take pictures of the mailman leaving the "Sorry we missed you..." card.

He guesses the carrier didn't want to walk up the two flights to get to the condo.

Some postal workers are contract carriers. All subject to Postal rules and regs, yet they are paid half and no health insurance. They use their own vehicles and are responsible for the upkeep. They work hard to get you your mail.

The Unions make regular postal workers and carriers sloppy and lazy. They have no worry of being fired for anything less than a federal crime.

I agree about the health care scare. Do you want people like this to be in charge of your mother's care? And If I remember rightly, one cannot “sue” the government for stupidity or incompetence.

Should be jail time. No reason to put up with this any longer.

I need to do that.

I shop online for Christmas. I’m always picking up at the post office.

OK, that’s it.

In the new Free Republic States of America,
unions will be outlawed.

Our mailman lumbers by around 5 every day. This guy moves as slow as dirt. He is a really nice guy but has a problem with delivering boxes and if he can get away with dropping a card to have me pick them up.

Yeah, my guy hates me. I have 70 pound boxes of lead bullets delivered every few months in a 'if it fits, it ships' box.

Our guy comes in the late PM every day EXCEPT when he needs to finish early. Then he suddenly manages to deliver before noon.

I know this because I’ve talked with him several times as he’s delivering in the morning. Mostly, he’s taking a 1/2 day vacation or has a doctor’s appointment that day.

More reason to ban ALL public employee unions, incuding cops and firemen.

Jerry: What do you do for a living, Newman?
Newman: I’m a United States Postal Worker.
Jerry: Aren’t those the guys that always go crazy and come back with a gun and shoot everybody?
Newman: Sometimes.
Jerry: Why is that?
Newman: Because the mail never stops. It just keeps coming and coming and coming, there’s never a let-up. It’s relentless. Every day it piles up more and more and more! And you gotta get it out, but the more you get it out the more it keeps coming in. And then the bar code reader breaks and it’s Publisher’s Clearing House day!

(Is the turtle still on the fencepost?)

Actually, it’s amazing to me that the only time I get mail before 5 is when he has a sub.

He looks like Rene Auberjonois though, so I have a bit of a soft spot for him.

The mailman when I was a kid was a man we called Ricco. I was never sure that was his name but he never said anything about it. He would come by and start the lawn mover for us because none of the girls could do it.
He always said he loved my mom cookies the best.

What a great guy!

I don’t hate the USPS! They do great with my Christmas cards and Netflix.

I’m not enamored with their Union.

LOL. Just kidding you, mom.

I ordered an 88 lb kettlebell from Ader. It was shipped UPS. I had the tracking number and made sure I was home for the delivery. It was somewhat amusing to watch the delivery guy bring it to the front door. I picked it off the front door step and walked it downstairs to the basement. It has a nice handle, so it was no big deal. 70 lbs of bullets would probably rip my mailbox off the post.
