It’s because Verizon’s service is the 3rd Generation of the much older and slower CDMA technology and ATT is using the 2nd and 3rd generation of the newer/faster GSM standard.
One other thing; on Verizon’s ‘3G’ service, you can’t do two things at once - for example, you can’t take a call and continue to browse the web. There simply isn’t multiplexing ability and there’s not enough bandwidth on their network.
Meanwhile, I’m talking to my father on my iPhone 3G while looking up prices on Botach Tactical’s website and checking the weather report. 3G GSM does let you talk and surf simultaneously.
