Adrian Peterson cited for Speeding

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson said Thursday that he'll be more careful after police clocked him driving 109 mph on a suburban Minneapolis highway over the weekend and cited him for speeding.

Peterson told The Associated Press he "got a little speeding ticket. I need to be more aware of the speed I was going and not let it happen again."

Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday while driving his BMW in a 55-mph zone on state Highway 62 -- a normally busy stretch of road known as the Crosstown that connects Minneapolis with southern and western suburbs, Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson said. She said Peterson was given a citation and allowed to drive away after what appeared to be a "very routine" traffic stop.

Anderson said police clocked the 24-year-old Peterson going 109 mph, but Peterson told the AP he wasn't going that fast.

"But I know it was [a] speeding ticket, and that's what I got issued for," Peterson said.

The stop happened the night before Peterson ran for 85 yards and a touchdown in a 36-10 victory over Chicago. The All-Pro also fumbled twice.

109 in a 55 zone is serious. Any non famous type would have been arrested on the spot.

Nope. When I was young (23), stupid, and had a really fast car ('91 T-Bird with the fastest production engine of that year), I got pulled over for going somewhere in the 140 range - the Highway Patrolman was going 140 and I was going faster than him - (speedometer only went to 85 so I don't know how fast I was going), and this was in a city (Dayton, OH). He gave me a ticket for reckless operation and let me go. I paid a lawyer $300 and he got it busted down to 84 in a 65. 2 points, a small fine, and slightly higher insurance rates. However, I did learn my lesson, and have been driving sanely ever since. In fact, I threw away my radar detector that day do I wouldn't be tempted in the future.

Why not?

It is never about the news but about the ratings. LOL!

Have a great day.

109 mph on State 62 in Edina is crazy. Not the kind of road surface, curvatures, traffic, etc.

Disclosure: I have driven on the Autobahns, have topped at 140 mph (220 km/h). Even on a well constructed road like that, you have to be completely aware of what’s going on around you. One distraction at that speed can likely be fatal. I would give the average Minnesota (Twin Cities) driver 30 minutes on the Autobahn before they crash, and that’s being generous. There is a major road rage problem in the Twin Cities, to the point where I think I’m back in bleeping Joisey.

I’m not surprised. I’ve watched this guy. He’s fast.

Once got stopped after coming down the Marin County Bridge near Richmond CA on my Triumph Trident. Don't know how fast I was going, the speedo was pegged at 125. I saw a CHP a sitting behind the bridge barrier and got stopped before the next exit. Chip was pretty nice, said he'd have had to chase me half way through the county to get caught up and since I stopped he was only going to writ me up for 90+ since anything over 100 is a trip to the jail. So I get my class A's on and show up in court but the highway patrolman didn't show. judge was about to dismiss the ticket when he says, nope, I know what this plus means. So I start into, your honor there is no way the patrolman could have got up to that speed and stopped by before the exit and I try to show him my drawings when he says, how fast? And I say 75? and he goes 35 dollars. And I'm looking at my fiance and she can't believe I skated out. Well it was 1975, different day ya’ll.

CNN, FOX, TMZ, and many other networks have dispatched crews to the location as we speak. Currently there are 175 network vans camped outside Peterson’s house.

In other breaking news..... Brett Favre was seen flipping the remote control on his TV to find a program. Waiting for full details as to what he finally ended up watching.

54 over is more than just a speeding ticket, that’s a top of the line 8 pointer wave bye bye to your license in AZ.

No but as the police tossed him the ticket, Steve Smith came flying out of the woods and caught it. He took off running and is currently in Canada.

Right you are, Fred. 109mph on the crosstown would take some real skill and concentration. Too many un-straight sections......
