Adrian Peterson cited for Speeding

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson said Thursday that he'll be more careful after police clocked him driving 109 mph on a suburban Minneapolis highway over the weekend and cited him for speeding.

Peterson told The Associated Press he "got a little speeding ticket. I need to be more aware of the speed I was going and not let it happen again."

Peterson was pulled over just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday while driving his BMW in a 55-mph zone on state Highway 62 -- a normally busy stretch of road known as the Crosstown that connects Minneapolis with southern and western suburbs, Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson said. She said Peterson was given a citation and allowed to drive away after what appeared to be a "very routine" traffic stop.

Anderson said police clocked the 24-year-old Peterson going 109 mph, but Peterson told the AP he wasn't going that fast.

"But I know it was [a] speeding ticket, and that's what I got issued for," Peterson said.

The stop happened the night before Peterson ran for 85 yards and a touchdown in a 36-10 victory over Chicago. The All-Pro also fumbled twice.

The way he runs that football, speeding is an understatement!

Nearly twice the speed limit. My own term for that is “Mach Two.”

I can sympathize.

It’s quite easy to lose track of your speed in a smooth-running European sporting sedan, or on an Italian or Japanese sporting motorcycle for that matter.

109 in a 55 zone is serious. Any non famous type would have been arrested on the spot.

It is a problem for someone not to realize he or she is going twice the speed limit.

In related news, Edina police spokeswoman Molly Anderson took this opportunity to also admit that she was sexually involved with Tiger Woods in 2005.

Meh.

I have driven a couple BMW's before.

Let me tell you there were times when I looked down at the speedometer and was absolutely amazed at how fast I was going. It feels like you're going the speed limit!

And I am sure Adrian drives much nicer models than I have ever been in.

Not necessarily true.

I know this from personal experience. I am not famous and I was not taken to jail; either time.

For some, it is a bigger problem that he fumbled twice in a single game.

Exactly - and he’s calling the policewoman a liar.

That was my first thought. My car and I would both be arrested and held untill I coughed up some hard earned federal reserve notes for our ransom.

Yes. It is stunning how smooth, quick, fast and good handling a modern “sporting sedan” really is.

110+ on a traffic-free, straight 4-lane road can FEEL like 60 - and as long as you’re looking down the road concentrating on driving instead of, say, obsessing about the speedometer reading, it’s not necessarily unsafe.
