So Freepers don't like RINOs. I get it. But who's NOT a RINO? [vanity]

Thats why for me I look at all the candidates who are running for a office and see what their positions are. I know I will never agree with all of them on the issues.

So for me I support the candidate who I believe I agree with the most and will be the best person for the job.

As much as I like the man, you DO realize that he’s the only President In my lifetime to actually grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens. He also took our debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion. Would that fly today?

We’re going to have to compromise somewhere. I hate it, but it’s true.

We aren't the ones who need to compromise. You do.

Interesting. Your tagline seems to get the whole RINO issue...

I appreciate the post. A lot of petty attacks on good people. I haven’t decided on a preferred Presidential candidate yet, but whoever it is I hope they pick Judd Gregg as their running mate. A real common sense kind of guy.

He is rate as a “hard-core conservative”
http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Judd_Gregg.htm

A couple of weeks ago the Paul-ites were ready to kill him for opposing Ron Paul’s attempts to give Congress more control over the Fed. I didn’t think the hositility directed towards Senator Gregg was justified. Even if Ron Paul can do no wrong, disagreeing with Paul on an issue doesn’t make Gregg evil suddenly.

We’re going to have to compromise somewhere. I hate it, but it’s true.

Question: Give me an example where the dimocrats have ever compromised on anything. They will follow one another off a cliff even if they know it's there.

Conservatives are individualists and that is why we "seem" to always be barking at each other. Also, when one is standing on principles, as most conservatives do, one doesn't compromise on those principles without betraying their own values and beliefs. My line in the sand is abortion and gay marriage.

If there were a candidate who was devoutly committed to reversing Pelosi’s health boondoggle, cap & tax and bring our economy and jobs back on track, but this guy would cave on say gay marriage, would we support him?

I would not. Not because I demand perfection (I don't), but because not all issues are of equal importance. Marriage is the foundation of civilization, and the attack upon it must be repelled.

Compromise is possible (but obviously not desired) on CAFE standards, or tax rates, or corporate regulation, or land management policy...but not marriage.

Before long there will be Freepers calling these three RINO’s because they disagree on one issue or another.

BS...your lack of principles does not prove our inability to compromise.

You nailed us. We don’t act like Democrats, and we don’t like it when Republicans do. “...as of 11/6/08, John McCain is a favorite whipping boy....” Please, give us more credit than that. Most of us whipped McCain long before that, years before that. Too bad other Republicans didn’t listen, before it was too late. “Charles Krauthammer is a lib because he’s no fan of Sarah Palin?” That would be enough reason not to like him, but Charles ranks right up there with McCain.

Unfortunately, there has been but one perfect man in the history of this planet — and we crucified Him.

Simply labeling someone a RINO may be too simplistic. One must weigh the good vs. the bad of each candidate individually. All have ideological imperfections. Some are dealbreakers. Some aren’t.

It is relative to your options. I voted for John McCain. I didn’t vote for him in the primary because there were FAR better candidates. In the general election, there weren’t any better choices available. I’d have preferred Fred Thompson, or Duncan Hunter, or even Mitt or Huck to McCain. But, they were eliminated. So ... my choices were McCain or Obama. McCain was an easy choice.

To me, a RINO is someone I would never seriously consider voting for in a Republican Primary — someone with an ideological flaw that is a dealbreaker for me. McCain qualifies. Mitt and Huck qualify. Olympia Snowe. Lindsey Graham. There are plenty of others.

Given the apparent strict requirements and Palin's support of a path to citizenship, throw her in there despite the protests of the Palin Amen Chorus.

Demint, Fred Thompson, Toomey are Conservatives, for example.

They won’t unite behind any candidate. 2010 and 2012 will be a repeat of 2008.

We've been uniting behind candidates that didn't give us what we wanted for thirty years. GTH!

I’m not a RINO, matter of fact I’m not a even a Republican so I can’t be a RINO. I laugh at those who throw that term around as if it is offensive. Libertarian leaning Independent is a great place to live.

We’re talking about standards. We’ve gotten tired of compromising and seeing our country dragged down the gutter by those who ‘elevate’ themselves as being reasonable. These ‘reasonable’ elites have actually lowered us beneath the lowest common denominator that once was.

“If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.”

If you want compromise and don’t believe we can realize the epitome of exceptionalism that was the United States of America, go back to france - they know surrender.

"He also took our debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion. Would that fly today?"

I see. If you are of the belief that Presidents create debt then I must send you back for a remedial Civics class.

Let me know when you bone up on the Constitution and the powers granted by such to the Executive branch.

The problem with conservatives is they are so high and mighty and always right

Conservatives are indeed always right about Mitt Romney, Juan MeCain and Mini-MeCain Graham!

Nope.
We’ll vote for the Conservative in the Primary, and against the Liberal (aka Pinko Commie Fellow Traveler) in the General.

Unless they’re both Liberals. Then we give up.

Too bad our influence is washed out by the the open primary system, though.

But if a candidate wants our votes, he better throw us a bone. Better yet, a whole pile of big, meaty bones... If he just complains about us, maybe we skip that line on the ballot or pick a third party.
