Dear Eldrick:
First, sorry to hear about the second most famous crash last week. (Im sure in retrospect, you wish you were with those other crashers at the White House, rather than being eased out of your Escalade at 2 in the morning.)
Second, I know you and the lovely Elin have been ducking the local fuzz in terms of elaborating on what happened and you tried to extinguish the fire with yesterdays half-baked statement but...
Third, as much as you dont want to hear it, your only choice now is to take the penalty stroke and fess up about what happened -- maybe not all of it, but at least, much of it.
Frankly, the statement your released yesterday expressing that This is a private matter, and I want to keep it that way, is a non-starter. Alas, there is nothing private about what you do. Thats the price you pay for who you are.
As any even casual viewer of cable news knows by now, when a celebrity hits the wall (in your case, literally!), there is no alternative but to get the bad news out.
Michael Phelps, Kobe Bryant and Michael Vick did, and they lived to score another day. Martha Stewart and Mel Gibson didnt, and they never fully recovered. And it took Michael Richards three years and a Larry David "Seinfeld" comeback to begin to clear his name. And as to the late lamented Latin lothario Governor Mark Sanford from South Carolina, dont even ask.
So, my friend, as much as you value your privacy and as distasteful as the reality of this awfulness is, you really have no choice.
With apologies, here is the crisis management mantra to which you must abide:
#1. Go Public
You cant not. Those TV trucks outside ....

Injuries from car crash to prevent his participation
11/30/2009
Due to injuries sustained in a one-car accident last week, Tiger Woods will be unable to play in the 2009 Chevron World Challenge.
"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be at my tournament this week," Woods said. "I am certain it will be an outstanding event and I'm very sorry that I can't be there."
"We support Tiger's decision and are confident the strong field and excellent course will provide an exciting week of competition at the Chevron World Challenge, said Greg McLaughlin, Tiger Woods Foundation President & CEO
Woods will not participate in any other tournaments in 2009 and will return to action next year.

Woods met Florida's legal requirement by providing police with his driver's license, car registration and proof of insurance, and is not obliged to volunteer medical records, video from home security cameras or anything else investigators might want, prominent Florida lawyer Roy Black said.
"Any lawyer with a brain in their head is not going to allow him to talk to the police because nothing good can come of talking to the police," said Black, who defended William Kennedy Smith, a member of America's Kennedy clan, against a rape charge, and radio host Rush Limbaugh in a drug fraud case.
Woods said in a written statement on Sunday that the accident was his fault and was "obviously embarrassing to my family and me." He called irresponsible the "many false, unfounded and malicious rumors that are currently circulating about my family and me."

The Florida Highway Patrol said it had not made any comments on Woods' medical information, an apparent reference to a published report that investigators were seeking a search warrant for the hospital where the golfer was treated to obtain his medical records.

And with the police always looking for a charge to put on someone (Hey! It's their job... LOL...), the best advice that you or I or anyone can get is to never ever talk to the police under any circumstances, anywhere at anytime...
Talking to the Police by Professor James Duane
Professor James Duanes now famous 5th Amendment lecture - popularly known as Dont talk to the police! - has amassed a considerable internet following. The lecture, given as part of Regent Law Schools spring preview weekend.
"If we're unable to meet with him, we'll move on with our investigation," Montes said. But she called the delays "very unusual, because it's such a minor accident."
Now, if the police are saying that this kind of delay is very unusual for "such a minor accident" -- then by inference and conclusion, I would say that the "charges" could only be "minor" too.... LOL...

The so-called "other woman" whose name has surfaced in the wake of Tiger Woods's accident has hired a high-profile celebrity lawyer and issued an adamant denial of any relationship with the golfing champ.
"I did not have any involvement with him [Woods]," Rachel Uchitel told E! News. "Whatever was written in the Enquirer was not said by me, it was said by two people that claimed they were friends of mine, but they're not." She added: "I am overwhelmed, so I hired Gloria Allred to handle the situation. I don't want to get this much attention, and I wish everybody would leave me alone."
3) Shouldnt you reporters be covering more important things like terrorist attacks on our military or global warming hucksters ripping off the taxpayers for millions in grants?
BUT..., but..., I have it on "good authority" that FReepers do like to get into some salacious gossipping and rumormongering once in a while... LOL...
While I agree that his personal affairs dont interest me, I will say that if I go outside, get in the car, run over a hydrant and smash into a tree, the police are not going to drop it. (run-on sentence off)
Well..., I don't know why not? LOL... they did with me... :-)
Heck! It was a freeway light pole that I took out, had fire engines and police cars all over the place... ooops.
All they did was give me a ticket for "Failure to maintain control of vehicle" -- which I got dismissed in court, with a lawyer (it was a piece of cake and not expensive...) Heck, they decided the case in the courthouse lunchroom, with my lawyer and the judge and the cop sitting at another lunchroom table yukking it up. Then my attorney came over and said, "Go home, case dismissed..." and that was it.
So, again, I don't know why not? LOL...
If it works for the "little guy" why can't it work for the celebrity. Don't they have equal rights? :-)
Only criminals or people hiding something dont talk to the police.
Well, are you sure you are a conservative then? LOL... I thought conservatives supported exercising their god-given, founding-fathers-formed Constitution... :-)
I know I do...
And thus, you should really get some education on the subject matter of talking to the police. In other words, you should never talk to the police anytime anywhere no-how no-way... :-)
Even a professional police interrogator agrees with this. See the following...
And also..., the police are always looking for a charge to put on someone (Hey! It's their job... LOL...), the best advice that you or I or anyone can get is to never ever talk to the police under any circumstances, anywhere at anytime...

BINGO! You nailed it right there.
Ummmm..., you should see my post #67 for what "works for the little guy should work for the celebrity"... LOL...
It’s nobody’s business except Woods and his wife.
If I were him, I would not come out of the house or be seen in public until the 1st Major tournament in 2010....give the scratches and bruises enough time to heal.
And I believe Tiger when he says “...it will never happen again”.
Go worry about Iran and Afghanistan....the value of the dollar...and what this imbecile in the White House is doing to our country.
Leave Tiger Woods alone. He doesn’t have to say a thing.
Anybody can make up a rumor, you did really well, now slide on back over to DU.
You know..., I've found on Free Republic that conservatives love salacious gossipping and rumormongering as much as the next guy. I guess we conservatives are like everyone else that way... LOL...
If youve got a cancer, do you ignore it, thinking it will go away? Apparently, you think thats a good approach.
There must be a "whole lot of cancer" going on in my family then. I've got a grandmother who ran up a tree, a daughter running down a cow in a field, a cousin getting smacked by someone when pulling into her driveway, and me chopping off a freeway light pole real good... LOL...
Ummmm..., how do we (in our family) and all the rest of the "Americans with Accidents disability" get treatment for this cancer... :-)
The golfer guy shows a propensity to be a danger to the public. What if a young child had been run over? Do you take the same position?
Oooops... you just wiped out half my family, as they've had car accidents. I guess they've all got a "propensity to be a danger to the public"... LOL.. [come to think about it, I think you just wiped out my whole family... LOL..., as the've all had one accident or another in a car...]
Gosh, I think probably half the American public qualifies that way of being a danger to the public.
Do you think we should lock them all up? :-)
Tiger doesnt need the media, he never did. The media buzz around him to make money off of stories they write about him.
But, we, on Free Republic need Tiger Woods..., or else we would never have as much fun with anyone else in regards to salicious gossip and rumormonering. Heck what else can we do here on Free Republic for fun.
We've already got all those serious subjects of Anthropogenic Global Warming, and Obamacare and getting rid of Obama -- we gotta have something for fun... LOL...
As a general rule, people only care about this stuff if they want to destroy someone.
Oh come on Jimmy-Mack..., you and I both know that there are just as many on Free Republic who would like to destroy Tiger Woods as there is anywhere else... LOL...
Go get in your car. Run over a hydrant and smash into a tree. Leave the scene and let me know how it turns out.
Uh-oh...!! I didn't know leaving the scene in an ambulance, being taken to the hospital was a crime... LOL...
There's a lot of people "out there" that are "in trouble" and don't even know it... :-)
Why the hell you ran into a fire hydrant and tree?
Well, to this day, I have no idea why I took out that light pole on the freeway... LOL.. I think someone is going to wait a very long time for an answer from me on that one... :-)
And I don't think my daughter knows why she went after that cow in the field with her car.
Also, I've heard my grandmother puzzling about how that tree in the park got in the way of her driving. She said, "And there it was!".... LOL..
You otta ask a bunch of insurance claims processors what kinds of things people say -- you would get a real big laugh! LOL...
Actually the police are thinking of getting a search warrant. He’ll be obligated then. As for the media, he can never speak to them, as long as he is ok with the consequences of that action. I’m pretty sure he’s going to decide to speak and get out in front of this circus, so it will end. He is free to do what you suggest, and endure day after day of endless speculation in the media, and not just in the sports media. In fact he is doing just that. How’s that working out by the way?
The advice is all backwards. Tiger is actually doing the exact right thing, he issued an admit nothing statement, he’s canceled appearances, and will stay out of the public eye until the “news” cycle moves on to something else. The more you talk about a scandal the more you keep it in the news, there’s nothing you can say to end a scandal, scandals end when there’s nothing new to report and not talking is the best way to end the stream of new things.
