Yeah.

I just get a little peeved with the, "You think I'm bad, just look at so and so" argument.

I’d say they should pass on this guy and look at Harbaugh or take a stab at Stoopsie.

These 2 look like the best. Hope they take someone other so they continue in mediocrity.

They should look at Charlie Strong, he coached under Lou Holtz at Notre Dame, has been with Urban Meyer for the last couple of seasons, and he deserves his shot. If Notre Dame is looking for a defensive-minded coach, there is none better, based on what he’s done at Florida.

I agree Charlie S. deserves a head coaching position at another school. Maybe not a top 25 school right away, but a Mid major like Urban cut his teeth on. ex. a directional Lousiana school or a MAC team.

Oh and GO GATORS...beat the Gumps

Anyone else notice how the majority of their games are played in South Bend? Why does the NCAA allow that? (7 home, 5 away) A look back at previous years finds it is regularly done.

“Notre Dame hasn’t been relevant for 20 years and hasn’t been a recruiting powerhouse for a generation. Sportswriters and media types are going to have to realize that about 20-25 schools are ahead of the Irish on the recruiting front and on field performance.”

Yep. The Irish have the same problem that the Military academies, Northwestern, Stanford, and a few other quality schools have: Their players have to attend the school and pass.

I’m a Buckeye fan, and I’d be willing to bet that it’s much, MUCH easier to get a kid through some stupid program at OSU than it is to get a kid through Notre Dame.

I don't see Northwestern, Stanford and the military academies with an NBC contract.

Can you provide some links or cite some sources regarding the Brian Kelly matter at CMU?

Exactly! Who the heck wants to go play in that dreary northern climate when they can go to Florida, Alabama, USC, Miami, etc.... They can never compete in recruiting with those more temperate climate schools. Northern schools like ND and Michigan are done. D-O-N-E!!!

I think Ara’s still alive, as the Big Ten network just did a show on him (at Northwestern before ND). Ara still remembered specific plays from games in the 60s and 70s, and is, I think, 89 years old. What I think of ND football is 100% based on the coach. I rooted for Ara, Lou, and Ty and “hoped for failure” on most of the others. ND fans were so excited about 4 straight top recruiting classes, and this was supposed to be their year. Lou even predicted 12-0 and a spot in the BCS championship game. This was supposed to be the year, with the O-line mostly seniors and Jimmy, Golden, Michael Floyd and Armando Allen to score points. Next year will be very difficult, with both top QBs gone, and who knows how many recruits will back out of commitments.....

That is true of most of the big football programs. For example, Alabama for its regular season played 7 homes games, 4 away and 1 neutral site.Except for the conference schedules, college football set their own non-conference schedules. For Notre Dame they schedule all their own games since it is not affiliated with any conference. The NCAA has no power over scheduling.

“I don’t see Northwestern, Stanford and the military academies with an NBC contract.”

I don’t believe that I was saying that ND should have their own TV contract... let me see, I’ll re-read it... nope, not a shred of defense of that.

Heck, I’m not even an ND fan, I’m just observing why ND is falling off the pace in recruiting. The kids know that going to ND is going to be tougher than going to OSU, or Florida.

With the thought process displayed in that post, you are like the top players ND can’t get to come to their school. That is, unable to compete academically.

ND doesn't deserve to be on this list. The only people who believe it are graduates and those paid to promote the idea at the university. While it is true that ND doesn't have the fluff majors that many football powers have, there are public universities that also are in the same class. One thing most of them share is mediocrity in football.....

Holtz was the last coach Notre Dame had. Being a northern, cold weather school, it’s tough enough to recruit. But when your student athletes really have to BE students, that is really a killer. ND is either going to lower its standards or become a perennial 6-5 team (or worse with their schedule.)
