Man Wanted in Police Killings Received Clemency from Huckabee; Not Huck's First Mistake - Video

Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is facing real problems if he should seek the GOP Nomination for President in 2012 after word is out tonight that a man he granted clemency in Arkansas in 2000 is now being sought in the shooting deaths of four police officers near Tacoma, Washington today. . . . This is not the first time Huckabee's seeming bent toward leniency on convicted criminals has resulted in tragedy. Another man granted clemency by Huckabee went on to rape and murder a young woman in Missouri. That man's name was Wayne Dumond. Listen to the ad below which ran against Huckabee during the 2008 Campaign. It features the mother of Carol Sue Shields - the young woman murdered by Dumond . . . (VIDEO)

They were talking on Fox how 150,000 is a very low bail for rape or attempted rape (said 2nd degree rape of child whatever that means) of a child. I guess the judge probably never thought a common thief could come up with $150,000 - boy was he wrong. I wonder how he did come up with 10% and why a bondsman would go for it. He didn’t seem like a good risk - had quite the record.

The whole system let this one go through the cracks. How many more like him are out there?

Best case scenario now would be the one cop that got a shot or two off - got him bad enough to permanently put him away. He’s a bad seed.

Every single time I get a chance to question a politician whose for amnesty I ask them, what about the MS-13 gang members who are in the US illegally, are you for giving them amnesty?

Still have not found one who can answer that question.

Bet he’s not the only roach to creep in from the cracks.

“Jail Sucks Bail Bonds”, what a name.

Wow. This article is especially interesting and now I feel bad - you did all the work!

There really is a “jail sucks bail bonds”. I thought some FReeper was joking when he/she wrote that.

I found this interesting on the second article “Investigators believe Clemmons, the person of interest, “is intentionally avoiding us,” Troyer said”. Ya think??

Sounds like his family was quite aware he was about to lose it. He’s crazy. At least it explains how he got the $15,000 for the bail - he ran a business out of his home - can’t remember exactly - power cleaning and landscaping maybe?

Yeah, I saw some FReeper had written that and I just thought they were joking. It’s a real bail bonds company.

This case should force the legislature in Washington State to rethink their bail criteria.

When a person has a previous violent record, is picked up for the sexual assault on a child AND an attack on a police officer bail should not even be a consideration.

Add that he had an open warrant in Arkansas and I think some judge (or magistrate) has some explaining to do.

Some facts, and hopefully he still remembers and is haunted by Ashley Stevens, Dumond's rape victim as he ponders his role in today's events:
... said she tried to persuade Huckabee not to shorten the sentence for Dumond.

“I told [Huckabee]: If you ever let him out, he’s going to do it again,” she said in an interview.

She was able to get a meeting with the governor - who, she said, had not spoken to her before announcing his intention to commute Dumond’s sentence - but realized Huckabee had “made up his mind.” So Stevens stood up, she said, walked over to Huckabee, who was seated on a sofa, squatted down and thrust her face inches from his.

“I said, ‘This is how close I was to Dumond’s face for an hour,’ “ Stevens recalled. “ ‘I’ll never forget his face, and you’ll never forget mine.’ “

The parole board - following a closed meeting with Huckabee - decided to let Dumond go. The following year, Dumond committed the Missouri slaying. He died in prison in 2005. "

If I ran a bail bond shop, I can’t imagine that I would post bail for a dude with an outstanding warrant from another state and eight felony counts.

Next, I want to hear about this magistrate or Judge that let him out.

There’s some speculation that he commuted Clemmons’ sentence for a gain in black votes. He got them.

Huckabee had claimed at the time that the reason for commuting Clemmons’ sentence was his young age at the time of conviction (17). I’m thinking he did it for black votes.

Someone commented on another thread that someone convicted for graffiti vandalism was granted 280k bail, compared to 150k for rape of a child.

I would not want to be in Huckabee's shoes about now - nor the judge who set his bond in Washington. Another thread showed he commuted 703 sentences and I'm thinking - well, 703 commutations and only 5 murders so far - that's not terrible odds (/sarc). I'm thinking Huckabee's probably going back over his records - I would be - trying to figure out who else might go out and kill someone? That other thread showed 703 from Arkansas and none of the surrounding states even came close.

However, not all the blame lies with him. A high % should go to Pierce County legal system as well.

It would be interesting to track every single one of Huckabee’s clemency/pardons to see where they are today. See how many have committed another crime, ended up back in prison or escalated to a violent crime.

I don’t see it happen unless some enterprising journalist is willing to be smeared with accusations of racism.

Oh there is no denying the Pierce County Justice system needs a huge enema. This type of case can even get typically soft-on-crime liberals to ask why the hell people like this are let back out on the streets.

I am willing to bet within the next few days, Huck will say he ‘did the Christian thing’ by granting criminals clemency.

The accusation of 'racism' has lost it's bite. Or at least, it should have by now.

Someone will do this as you suggest, I'm sure.

It’s not “the Christian thing” to intentionally put others’ lives in danger just so you can feel ‘diverse’ and ‘tolerant.’
