A man was just moments away from death as he hung in the jaws of a bear he tried to have a picnic with in a Swiss zoo. But in the end it was the bear who ended up fighting for his life after police shot it in order to save the life of the uninvited intruder into his enclosure.
These dramatic photographs were taken by a visitor to the Bern Park, Switzerland, on Sunday when Finn, a European brown bear aged four, suddenly realised the unwanted human guest in his home.
The 25-year-old man's bid to party with Finn mirrors a similar escapade in Berlin Zoo in Germany on Good Friday this year when Mandy Knobloch, 32, jumped in to swim with the polar bears.
She was severely mauled but rescued before keepers had to open fire on the bears.
Finn was not so lucky. As his massive jaws capable of crushing steel and eight-inch fangs that can rip flesh like paper sank into his prey, police had to act fast to save the life of his prey.

Never take weenies and tater salad to a bear fight.
I laughed when I pictured the idiot being operated on by veterinarians. I just hope they neutered him.
When are people going to realize that bears are not warm, soft, cuddly creatures? Bears are wild animals that will kill and eat humans as easily as a rabbit.
My thoughts exactly. What happened to not disturbing the natural order of things. The bear was only doing what a bear does. Why punish him for that. Its not like he was running through town eating people. He was in his cage minding his own business when some idiot decided to have a picnic with him.
I bet the idiot never knew he was on the menu.

Aw, poor bear. Police did what they had to do, but it’s a shame that the animal is likely to die (they apparently can’t remove all the bullet fragments) as the result of some jagoff’s stupidity.
I truly do not understand what part of “wild animal” these buffoons do not understand. Nature is majestic, and often beautiful. It can also be deadly and does not conform to the cute and fuzzy notions held by idiots like the guy in this story.
Um, Finn is the bear...
The latest news is that Finn is on his way to recovery and is probably out of danger. I read it on http://www.welt.de/news/article5315049, which is in German. There are several websites that will translate the article to English. Google is the most popular. I don’t know what else to tell you, because I have never posted a link to an article before. But at least you know where to find the article. I just wanted everyone to know that it looks like Finn will be okay. There is also a photo of the recovering Finn.
I’d have shot the idiot for stupidly endangering the bear.
Here's a video.
Dang, I feel sorry for that bear.
This was never this prevalent a problem that I can recall. What on earth are the schools teaching these people these days? Why do so many people think that they can cozy up to wild predators?
Hello, Darwin contender? We’re at the top of the food chain because the sane among us do not do things like this.
It’s a shame that this idiot caused such injuries to poor Finn and also himself. Sheesh! I had a friend who once said to me, “You make your own trouble.” Was he ever right!
Why is it that Palin detractors don't come across as particularly bright?
Yeesh...too bad if it’s true the guy was actually handicapped instead of just stupid.
