‘Idol’ Runner-Up (Adam Lakmbert) Sexes Up American Music Awards

"American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert's vocals weren't top-notch at last night's American Music Awards, but nobody really noticed. How could they, given his over-the-top and in-your-face sexual choreography. Lambert's act during the show, aired on ABC, featured male dancers on leashes, an open-mouth kiss between Lambert and his male keyboardist, and simulated oral sex, both male-on-male and female-on-male.

Naturally, boundary-pushing Hollywood hailed Lambert's performance.

"As a TV viewer, I thought Lambert's performance was a gas, a delight, a blast of brash vulgarity in the midst of ordinary vulgarity," wrote Entertainment Weekly's Ken Tucker.

I am too.

You know it’s bad when you can’t even turn on one of your favorite stars.

Couldn’t agree more...he thinks he needs this far more than he actually does. Then again, look at the field he’s competing on. Making a spectacle of yourself is practically a requirement to being “taken seriously” in pop music nowadays. “Too safe” = unmarketable to teenagers, no matter how talented you are.

Why is it that when we criticize their behavior we’re told to “stay out of our bedrooms” but they don’t flinch over bringing their bedrooms into our living rooms?

What? A homosexual turned their moment of attention into a display of blatant in-your-face sex and moves meant to “shock” people? Color ME surprised! (/sarcasm off)

“Palladin”, huh?
What does it say on your business card,
“Have meaningless snark, will travel?”
If you have something to say, then say it.
These little drive-by potshots are meaningless,
they might make you feel better,or more self-righteous but don’t advance
the cause of discussion in any way.
I’ve been flamed before, but not often, and your
sarcasm comes off more like a Zippo lighter nearly out of fuel.

I admit to watching American Idol and I never thought Adam Lambert's talent matched his hype. I always suspected it was the straights on Idol obliquely patronizing the 'gay guy' by praising him to the skies, knowing that his perverse sexual proclivities, often manifested in his weird appearance (which he later toned down a bit) would likely cost him the Big Prize when the show's heavily-represented heterosexual teenage audience would vote for the other finalist, Kris Allen, who is married - and talented This is exactly what happened.

Lambert's sleazy gay-explicit performance on the AMA awards show justifies my decision, made some years ago, not to waste my time on these shows as they often feature raunchy performances by no-talent performers I've never heard of. Apparently, they've only gotten worse. Always trying to outdo the last show with ever more tawdry acts and crass 'performances' that belong in a low-end strip club or gay bar, not on television.

I liked Carrie too. I started watching Idol the year after she won. I saw the last show when she won, and heard her sing, and thought the show was worth a try the next year.

After last night’s disgraceful performance, hearing “Jesus Take The Wheel” on the radio won’t really be the same.

It appears she is not really into Jesus anymore...

I hope if she reviews her performance, she will do a gut-check and know she did something wrong and never act like that again.

ABC gets complaints about Lambert’s performance

Nov 23, 3:23 PM (ET)

NEW YORK (AP) - ABC says more than 1,500 people have called to complain about Adam Lambert’s sexually charged performance at the American Music Awards.

The network characterized the response as “moderate.” Before his performance, Lambert said that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don’t do it that often.

There were also hostile comments online about the “American Idol” glam rocker who sang his new song “For Your Entertainment” on Sunday’s show with an elaborate, S&M-themed production. Lambert fondled a dancer, led another around on a leash, had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert’s crotch and kissed a man.

ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co

peggy, I think I will boycott Idol this season, even though it will mean missing all my good FReeper friends and their outstanding humor.

AND having said all that, I scrolled through it all, and it looks like you made no less than SEVEN posts about the AMA awards show, some with PICTURES! What , are you obsessed?
Do YOU get paid by the word? Didn’t Freud call this
‘projection’?
I didn’t even watch the show until the last five minutes, and I nearly turned away from it in disgust after the first minute, but kept watching thinking that something might gel in his vocal performance, since the staging was a tiresomely
in-your-face, and over-the-top joke.
Instead it just got worse. My whole point was the (obviously arguable one) that this guy, if he doesn’t change his ways, is going to throw away all his talents, which as I said, are considerable, if you’ve listened to what he did in musical theater years ago, in a show as ‘straight’ as Brigadoon. THAT, by the way , is available for listening on youtube.com. Have a good evening.

Hey, in the old days, wouldn’t the FCC fine ABC for broadcasting pornography?

I guess anything goes now that the hippies are in charge of the country.

Damned Hippies!

it is as if someone has opened the door to the pit — both in the political and entertainment arena. just think someday all these folks who hate everything good or noble will get to spend all their time together.
