Massachusetts High School Principal Threatens to Suspend Students Caught Meeping
MEEP!
Don't know what it means? Don't worry -- most people over the age of 22 don't either.
But the nonsense word -- which apparently started with the 1980s Muppet character Beaker -- is causing a lot of teeth-gnashing for adults at one Massachusetts high school. They have gone so far as to threaten suspension for students caught meeping.
But just what does it mean to "meep?" No one really seems to know -- even those who use it as part of their daily vocabulary.
According to UrbanDictionary.com, meep "can mean whatever you want it to mean."
Yeah, that clears it up.
Bob Thompson, a pop culture professor at Syracuse University, said he first heard students meep about a year ago during a class screening of a television show.
"Something happened and one of them said 'Meep,'" he said. "And then they all started doing it."
The meeps, he said, came from all of the students in the class in rapid-fire succession. When he asked them what that meant, they said it didn't really mean anything.

and one hell of a jazz musician too. He was a very talented guy.
How odd that you 'get it', but a " pop culture professor at Syracuse University" remains oblivious to the fact?
You should now consider yourself a PHD (or higher).
Care to share some water, Jubal?
Meeped meeping meeps.
Grok
Thank you. Last time I heard that stuff I was about
6 years old, and needless to say my relatives used
it constantly around me!!
I worked in middle schools. I have looked evil in the eye. I have prepped students for the state mandated test; students who will likely end up in prison.
Nothing surprises or scares me anymore.
That said, I'm hep man, way hep.
I doubt if I asked my teenage kids who Beaker is they could tell me. Boy, is this writer out of it.
Cool it worked...
Obamaway isway anway assway
When I was in junior high a couple friends and I went to see him tape his show live in Los Angeles. He's always been a favorite and has written thousands of songs!
Going beyond his funny bits, he was one of the funniest and most talented show hosts Ive ever seen.<<<<
He used to do his show across from the Hollywood Ranch Market, I think it was. He was always doing man on the street stuff with their customers. I’ll bet that was great to see him live! I see the late night guys today and it’s a shame, they don’t come close.
Oh for pity sakes....its just peem spelled backwards!<<<<<<
Indeed it is. And now we can all be “MWF”, Meeping While Freeping.
Meep is a perfectly cromulent word.
We were so excited to go to the taping. We were a fan club (just three of us.) He acknowledged us in the audience for 10 seconds just 'cause we were from a junior high bowling league. Imagine! We were on TV with Steve Allen!
Does this brush with hollywood stardom mean I have to turn in my conservative credentials? ;0)
FEEP?, IBBY?
Versatile word, that. I'll test drive meep and see how it fares. "Oh, smegging meep." Hm. Not bad....
Ha! Yeah...this IS one of those important issues....
back atcha....> :O)
