Michelle Obama's cameo in cooking show (Iron Chef America)
NDTV ^ | 110409 | New York Times News Service

Posted on 11/05/2009 9:34:50 AM PST by Artemis Webb

Alton Brown, the host of "Iron Chef America," fell into the turnip patch just before the show began taping several scenes outside the White House in late October. (The best stuff always happens off camera.)

On the episode, which will open the show's new season on January 3 on the Food Network, two pairs of chefs will compete: Cristeta Comerford, the White House executive chef, and Bobby Flay go up against the combined forces of Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse.

In a collision of politics, cooking and popular culture, Michelle Obama will reveal the secret ingredient that the chefs must use in their televised cook-off: anything that grows in the White House garden (no further spoilers here, though). She will also talk about her crusade to reduce childhood obesity through better school lunches, community gardens, farmers' markets and exercise, which around the White House has the working title Healthy Kids Initiative.

Not so much the dress, its what the heck is that sweater over it. She looks like she can’t dress herself. How embarrassing.

He might not be.
Alton is a born again Christian and a fountain of common sense.

“Did Iron Chef do this when Bush was President?”

Probably not. I only saw one White House Christmas Special in all the eight years GW and Laura Bush were in the White House. I don’t recall seeing Laura Bush cookie recipies in any ladies magazines, nor were there any cute Christmas recollections regarding the twin. They were invisible except to those with forked tongues and poison pens.

I’ve never heard him say anything remotely political (except for his show on using sustainable fish, which was done very evenhandedly). I suspect that’s because he knows he’d get hammered for saying anything conservative, so he just does a good job of entertaining us ...

There are two very badly dressed people in that photo.

And one of them looks like she could be a waitress at a Howard Johnson's....the colors are right! (or she could be the mascot for the Miami Dolphins...isn't that their color scheme?)

Did Iron Chef do this when Bush was President?

no, but food network has done ALOT for troops. flay went to iraq for an episode of "throwdown." "next food network star" did an episode where the contestants made a meal for troops about to ship out, one of the episodes of "dinner impossible" was a dinner for troops, and a couple others aslo.

This should get her an Emmy, much in the same manner that Hillary “won” a Grammy for reading a book.

This is my response to them.

“I will not watch your your episode with that obama woman in it. Your politics are amazing transparent. Afterwards, I may decide to never watch IC again. Good riddance.”

Fact is, the show is lame and very uninformative. I mean really, in such trying times, where is anybody going to find Lama Ghee? Geesh....

most chefs and restaurant owners are republicans and often conservatives. and like most republicans in show biz, they’re very quiet about it.

about the only fault that they all have in common is that they’re usually smoke nazis.

I will admit that I am not a big shopper or a fancy dresser but on the 2 or 3 occasions a year that I do shop, at Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Macy's etc. I do not see dresses like this. The full gathered or pleated skirt dress that she wears are not on the racks I shop from. She must have these dresses custom made for her. She is still dressing like we did in the past. Someone needs to wise her up. Does anyone have that picture of the short fat clownish woman who is supposed to be her adviser? All I can remember is her shoes have bows on them. This might explain a lot.

Mario must be in dreamland since he’s a big lefty. I sure hope Alton Brown isn’t one.

Nice Crocs Mario, very classy.

And crocs are de riguer footwear in the kitchen biz, nice and cushy for long hours on your feet, unaffected by oil, grease or other spots.

"Fact is, the show is lame and very uninformative."

I don't think it is meant to be "informative". It's a spectator show. It is no more about teaching people how to cook at home than a NASCAR race is about teaching people how to drive on city streets.
