Soda, pop, cola, soft drink whatever you call it, it is one of the worst beverages that you could be drinking for your health. As the debate for whether to put a tax on the sale of soft drinks continues, you should know how they affect your body so that you can make an informed choice on your own. Soft drinks are hard on your health Soft drinks contain little to no vitamins or other essential nutrients. However, it is what they do contain that is the problem: caffeine, carbonation, simple sugars or worse, sugar substitutes and often food additives such as artificial coloring, flavoring, and preservatives. A lot of research has found that consumption of soft drinks in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease.

That's why I don't drink diet or regular soda.

I drink pop sometimes, but my kids never do. Still, the government has no business taxing it. There are a lot of things that are bad for you. Are they gonna tax it all?

Either water or beer. I only do soda pop on special occassions... I probably drink less then a twelve pack of soda annually!

Remember when sugar had such a bad name, no one wanted to use it in their soft drink products any more? There is convincing evidence (and mountains of anecdotal evidence) that the switch from sugar to high fructose corn syrup is connected to weight gain. I would be satisfied with a switch back to sugar. Meanwhile, well water through an RO filter is just fine....

I probably drink 3 or 4 cans of caffeine-free diet soda a week.I always thought since it was caffeine and sugar-free,it was ok. I’d say you get more sugar and caffeine from those energy drinks than you would from a caffeine-free diet soda.

I usually stick to seltzer water with an occasional tonic H2O.
Often, the carbonated clear stuff [no sugar, High-Fructose Corn Syrup, Sodium Benzoate, etc] is just for some fizz in either apple juice, orange juice or even as a poor man's ice cream float.
How am I doing so far?

Who Knew! Soda is behind all these ills. Cut the soda, you cut out tooth decay, obesity, and diabetes. OK, I'm game.
