I drink pop sometimes, but my kids never do. Still, the government has no business taxing it. There are a lot of things that are bad for you. Are they gonna tax it all?

Remember when sugar had such a bad name, no one wanted to use it in their soft drink products any more? There is convincing evidence (and mountains of anecdotal evidence) that the switch from sugar to high fructose corn syrup is connected to weight gain. I would be satisfied with a switch back to sugar. Meanwhile, well water through an RO filter is just fine....

I probably drink 3 or 4 cans of caffeine-free diet soda a week.I always thought since it was caffeine and sugar-free,it was ok. I’d say you get more sugar and caffeine from those energy drinks than you would from a caffeine-free diet soda.

I usually stick to seltzer water with an occasional tonic H2O.
Often, the carbonated clear stuff [no sugar, High-Fructose Corn Syrup, Sodium Benzoate, etc] is just for some fizz in either apple juice, orange juice or even as a poor man's ice cream float.
How am I doing so far?

A lot of research has found that consumption of soft drinks in high quantity, especially by children, is responsible for many health problems that include tooth decay, nutritional depletion, obesity, type-2 diabetes, and heart disease. Who Knew! Soda is behind all these ills. Cut the soda, you cut out tooth decay, obesity, and diabetes. OK, I'm game.

That's why I don't drink diet or regular soda. I only drink Hansen's all natural soda. It's hardly nutritious but at about a six pack a week, I'm probably not doing too much damage.
There's a lot of Americans out there for whom soda is the only hydration their body receives. My mom is like this. Drinks absolutely nothing but Coca Cola, about 6-8 cans a day.

Actually, you can make a decent soda at home with much less sugar. An uncle of mine used to make Birch Beer (non alcoholic) and a cream soda that he sold in his store in the 50’s. As kids, we drank gallons of it. I still have most of my teeth.
