This has nothing to do with race.

AMEX has a very prestigious Centurion Card. It's black, made from titanium. It's commonly called The Black card.

So now other issuers are getting a Black Card.

This Visa product is positioned to compete with Amex black card. Has nothing to do with race.

My understanding is that, with the black card, they give you money and in response, the card holder has to write letters telling the company that it hasn’t given enough.

This Visa product cannot compete with the Amex Black Card which is by invitation only, requires a minimum spending usage of $250K per year, has a one time $5K expense to join and $2500 annual fee.

I never understood why anyone would willingly pay such a fee just to have a high end card.

The American Express Centurion (Black) Card has an annual fee of $2500, an initiation fee of $5000 and a minimum spending requirement of $250,000 in order to receive an invitation for the card.

Not sure how accurate this wiki page is, but here you go:

I don’t understand... unless it’s a business card why would anyone need this? Maybe a present to a trophy wife? This is probably why I’m not rich, not understanding this...

You may not be rich, but you are probably solvent.

You are,of course, right. Correction it’s a wannabee. It’s trying to trade off the glamor and status of the Amex card. My point stands, i.e., sometimes a color is just a color. And has nothing to do with race.

It’s trying to trade off the glamor and status of the Amex card

It is offering essentially the same benefits and services as the Amex Platinum Card, and is more expensive $495 vs. $450. Unless you travel a great deal, the benefits are basically a bunch of frill.
