Well, here it is. I was looking for a second car, just an around town beater. Finally thought I found a half decent 95 grand am for 1500. High miles, not attractive but new inspection and new tires. It ran well. They guy at the little lot was sooo nice. Introduced me to his wife. Had the wife bring out their 9 mo. old little girl. Seemed like the just your average good joe. Well, I made an offer of 1300. and he agreed. Paid 1100. cash and the rest in check. (cont. below)
You make good sense. I thank everyone for their advice and scorn! It’s late, I drove by the lot with my wife and the car was not visible anywhere and the lights were out. So, I will take this guy at his word until tomorrow. I will not stop any checks at this point. If I do not get the car by tomorrow night then I will cross that bridge when I come to it. I will then consider a police report and talk to a lawyer. But, until then, I will take the guy at his word and chill out a little. I have learned a few things from this. One,, I want to all the more walk the narrow path with Jesus. The thought that I could be so deceived about a man’s character while being so foolish about something I should know better about, actually has brought a little fear into me. A good fear, in a way. It also makes me more thankful for my wife. She was the one person I wanted to talk the most to. It also made me appreciate the 45. God bless the 45! You just never know about people you meet. ;)
Yeah, I'm sure he's worried about getting sued for a $1300 car. Yeah, probably worried sick about it and probably tossing and turning over how to make this right with the freeper in question....
I’d kick his ass!
Did everything work out OK?
Whats the latest on your car situation? Curious minds want to know.
Did you level him?
Ok, well, it seems to have worked out. First, I was in the process of adding an update when the car was delivered to my house a little over an hour ago. This morning I called the county DA and two detectives came out to my job and spoke with me. I also spoke with my lawyer today and he was prepared to charge him with theft. He had said there was enough evidence to show a transaction had occurred, and that if the car was not delivered by tonight, legally and technically, it would be considered potential theft. My lawyer also instructed me to not go to the lot and pick up the car. He said I needed to stay away.
There was something else that I could not say last night. When I was checking out the car, there was something I found that I didn’t think anything about at the time, until I googled his name. I do not want to say what it was,, just something I found in the car. I am not trying to be mysterious here, but I don’t think I should plaster every detail on the internet, in case this thing becomes something later on. The detective was hoping he would deliver the car and not remove what I found, Which is what happened. The detective came, searched the car and took that thing with him. It may or may not be important, but he wanted it. He didn’t look at the whole thing in front of me, though some of it he did. And I don’t think he was about to tell me everything on his mind. Don’t know if it really will be, but he wanted it. So, that’s that. Before leaving, he did say it was a nice looking car for the money! LOL!
Sounds as if you are going to come out of this intact. You might have to testify about what you found, though.
Thanks for the update. Glad you got the car but glad you contacted the police and an attorney.
The detective that searched it for the evidence even said it was a nice little car for the money! Thought that was funny.
Wow, I’m glad this worked out for you!!!
Glad you got your car. Hopefully, the detective made sure there are no more “things.” Meanwhile, maybe you ought to check underneath the car too.... ya never know.
Well, I think I’m covered now. My wife is taking it to get cleaned inside and out tomorrow and then Friday it has an appointment at a good garage to be checked over thoroughly.
The detective told me to let him know if I find anything else.
Well, it’s made a great story to tell some family I visited today. I mentioned we just got this car.
“It’s a nice little car, good price, runs well. Even the detective that searched it for evidence of a crime said it was a nice car for the money.” That kinda gets their attention.
Veerrry interesting.
Glad things worked out for you.
Do the headlights work?
So far they work fine. Who knows, maybe something good will come from this after all.
Lets just hope the police don’t seize the car now as evidence of any crime..
