The Larimer County Sheriff says criminal charges are likely expected to be filed against Richard Heene.
Heene is the Fort Collins man who reported his 6-year-old son missing in a helium-filled balloon on Thursday.
The sheriff did not give specific charges, but said they would likely be a class 3 misdemeanor, which could be false reporting.
The sheriff's office is working on getting a search warrant to search the Heene home and is planning a news conference Sunday at 11 a.m.
Richard Heene and his wife Mayumi were interviewed by investigators Saturday.

The grown-up knew the throwin'-up wasn't in the blown-up.
No! That's exactly what he wants, to have his face on national tv. Don't give him any more publicity.
So theyre sayin the windbag knew that the little barfbag wasnt in the airbag?
Funniest freakin thing I’ve heard in at least five years!! My sides hurt!
Publicity is like oxygen to him! Without it he'll die! Or this time, he might *really* launch one of his kids into the ionosphere!
Think of the children!
one of the posters in the comment section was right, this guy has a my space, he logged in yesterday, and his profile says that he is “single”.
Three county's sherrifs departments went on full alert, the National Guard, two military helicopters from Buckley Air Base were sent out, the air space over DIA was put on alert and restricted and that's just what I heard the first day. That last would have to include attention from the FAA, the FBI and DHS. He is in deep deep doo doo.
The six-year-old’s voice sounded like he’s huffing helium.
These narcissists just do not care what they subject others to - including the fear of a child dying.
It reminds me of a silly competition run on a local radio station to see if you could make your spouse use profanity in reply to you. The radio station would secretly be recording - you just had to call your spouse and say something to make him/her swear. Their first ‘contestant’ was recorded calling her husband at work. When he answered, she excitedly told him their child had been kidnapped. The radio station jumped in and explained that it wasn’t true and ended the call ASAP and then had to explain to the public that they there was no entertainment value in hearing someone receive the news that their children had been kidnapped. What parent would put their spouse through that? Why, I believe the parents of little Falcon would, of course.
Not only that The Troubleshooter Tom Martino was in the air. The Geraldo of Colorado wasn’t amused.
I haven’t seen or heard Tom Martino in years. I just don’t tune in local TV or radio.
ping
he’ll get his “court tv” reality show.
You’re not missing much!
