Good morning to all of you gardeners. Running a little late with the post this morning. My garden area is now clear of plants. If the daily rain showers will just by pass me for a few days I will do a final tilling and remove a few more of the roots left behind. To all of you with Fall/Winter gardens I wish you the best.

Hey Gabz!

Personally, I think we should send all the fireants and mosquitoes to Iran/Iraq.

Same weather here.

Enjoy your day! :)

The pic is beautiful! Still glad i live here and not there! LOL

Everything here is flat. The kids used to call the high rise bridge a hill. :)

Lucky you with all your fruit trees! Apples just don’t do well here and they have to be sprayed constantly. I’m not even going to talk about peaches. Plums are iffy and cherries are definitely out. Blueberries do great.

Wonder if all those apple trees beside the road were planted or if it’s just where people threw apple cores out when they were finished eating them?

A little cooler here today—mid 80’s yest.

I know what you mean! I think we’ve about perfected our jerky technique/flavor! LOL We have to hide it too, otherwise it would be gone before I finished taking it out of the oven.

Samples? ;)

LOL!!!! By the time we got home, about 5, I don't think I could remember my name, let alone how to read :)

I did remember to pull strawberries out of the freezer this morning and plan to attempt it when we get home from church.

I'll let you know how it turns out!

Me too! 75. It just needs to stay 75. Good thing I’m not in charge of the weather! LOL

Well, I need something warm for the oven this morning...it was 22 degrees when I walked the dogs at 6am. Brrrrr!

I broke down and put on the furnace, but just to get the chill out of the house; it had fallen to 53 degrees overnight.

Gardening is officially OVER for me now. Wa-hoo! :)

(Well, I do still have grapes to process, but they’re on the porch out of the direct cold.)

It was 45 when I turned on the news this morning. I’ve pulled the flannel nighties out, but I still can’t bear the idea of closing windows yet.

Hardly a cloud in the sky here. It’s actually a gorgeous day, just a bit on the chilly side. I guess fall is actually here *SIGH*

I think the apples must be from where someone threw one out or from where an animal ate or carried an apple off from a tree in someone’s yard. They are pretty common growing in the ditch beside the road and no home around. I live about 3,500 ft higher in elevation than the towns down on the plains so I think I need about one temperature zone better hardiness tolerance than most trees sold in the nurseries.

I snapped some photos off the back deck this morning so you can see the Rockies in winter without getting cold!

James Peak from MtnClimber's back deck:

Must be old varieties if they’re still edible. Some of those old ones are awesome. Not pretty necessarily, but the flavor...

At one time there were something like 3-400 varieties. Way better than red/yellow delicious. Bleh.

These apples are small and may be a cross from who knows what. They are small and a bit tart.

The photo I posted earlier showed Caribou Ridge on the left side. This was near the location of the old Caribou Ranch Studio that burned down in 1985. Many famous singers used to live up here back then. Joe Walsh of the Eagles and Dan Fogelberg would have been my neighbors back then. The band Supertramp recorded their album "Even in the Quietest Moments" at Caribou and put a piano outside overnight for the cover photo.

Super Tramp Album Cover

Others recorded albums there including Elton John ( Caribou and Rock of the Westies) and Chicago (Chicago VI, Chicago VII, Chicago VIII, Chicago X, and Chicago XI).

Some other artists that recorded at Caribou Raanch:

Blood, Sweat and Tears America Badfinger The Beach Boys Jeff Beck Mike Brewer David Cassidy Chicago Phil Collins Chick Corea Deep Purple Rick Derringer Al Di Meola Dio Earth, Wind & Fire Emerson, Lake & Palmer Sheena Easton Dan Fogelberg Peter Frampton Gerard Jerry Goodman Jan Hammer Amy Grant Michael Jackson Waylon Jennings Billy Joel Elton John Carole King Kris Kristofferson Robert Lamm John Lennon (contributed to Elton John recording sessions) Jerry Lee Lewis Pat McJimsey, I Dig Girls album Jac Murphy Michael Murphey Stevie Nicks Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Tony Orlando Ozark Mountain Daredevils Tom Petty Eddie Rabbitt Rainbow Canyon Bruce Roberts Sailor David Sancious Tom Scott and the L.A. Express Billy Joe Shaver Shooting Star (band) Sons of Champlin Souther Hillman Furay Band Rod Stewart Stephen Stills Supertramp Ali Thomson Len Trout U2 James Vincent[1] Joe Walsh War Tony Williams Carl Wilson Frank Zappa

Unortunately the burned down studio is still more famous than the MtnClimber "Dig it yourself potato farm"!

My wife feels the same way. She is ok with outside weather as long as I handle firewood. About 4 cords I cut and haul inside each year. The wood burning stove usually keeps it above 70F even if it is below 0F outside.

I was up in WI last month and a friend of mine had the biggest carrots in her garden that I have ever seen.
