The car that thinks it's a powerboat (and is a babe magnet)

It is called the Python, and its makers claim it is the fastest amphibious vehicle ever sold.

It can hit 60mph on the waves - quicker than many speedboats - but is said to be equally at home on the road. All the driver has to do before leaving dry land is put the gears into neutral, engage the jet drive, then push a button to raise the wheels.

The Python is powered on land by a V8 engine from a Chevrolet Corvette, which produces 640 horsepower and enables the 3,800lb machine to reach 100mph. On water, thrust is provided by its Dominator Jet, which gives around 500 horsepower.

There is also a great video of the car in action, on road and water, in the article.

On the water it would burn at least 10 gallons an hour and probably more...so it would need a mast.

Good point, and for those days the Montano Bridge is packed.

There was a Camaro one a few years back. Great video somewhere online.

That's kinda what I was thinking... do we know how much this thing costs or is it a prototype?

Disregard last question. It’s right there in the article.

How does it handle trees in the river, or large boulders just below the surface?

Same as a real boat :-) Better have it equiped with an epirb.

Is it just me or does anyone else think that with the vette V8 at 640hp and only 3800lbs of car, it should be able to do a little better than go 100mph?

Where is the bait well, the fish well, and rod holders?

Here (fish box uner the floor cover) Agree the boat/car is about the equivalent of a jet ski, but about 100 times as expensive and not as safe (lets see someone right that if it tips over). I'd also like to see it come in the Boynton inlet on the ebb tide.

It won’t pass emissions and safety standards if the ECU doesn’t include a 105mph speed limiting device.

Yeah, Like the TWO BROTHERS did in the 70’s.

Not familiar with that incident. A scuba boat rolled coming out of the Boynton inlet back in the beginning of this year.

It’s just as well. I don’t want to be commuting in some car strange wanton women are trying to hop into all the time on my way to work.

The 2 Bros was a party boat out of Boyton, it flipped over in the inlet. It seems that the only party boats I ever fished on were destined to sink. Tampa II, 2 Bros., and the Glory. Luckily, I wasn’t on either of them when it occurred.

It’s impressive, inasmuch as it looks like it drives well, and still performs well on the water, and doesn’t look half bad either.

I wonder about the freeboard at the bow though. It’s probably OK on fairly flat water, but that nose is going to tend to dig down into a wave that’s bigger than 3 ft or so. At any kind of speed... that could end really badly.
