Welcome. Come on in. My name is Jay Shafer and since 1997 I have been living in houses smaller than some peoples closets. I call the first of my little hand built houses Tumbleweed. My decision to inhabit just 89 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.

This giu is very innovative. Great idea for those who choose to live this way.
The problem arises when our overlords want to force the peons into such housing while continuing to occupy their own mansions.
Exactly.
It's a prefabricated, mass-produced house, except with the option of smaller sizes.
If folks voluntarily want to purchase them, then by all means, go for it!

Well, yeah.
That's usually when the trouble starts... ;)
It’s more acceptable to call this a tiny house on wheels rather than a redneck mobile home.

Wonder where the guy takes a sh*&, shower and shave?
I suppose of you had a root cellar, you could maintain enough food stores and have some storage for things like ammo.
My shoes wouldn’t fit in that house...and that reader’s comment about disliking the bathroom opening up into the kitchen made sense to me. This is a great idea if it could be modified a bit for those of us who have claustrophobia
(and have more possessions than the owner of the featured Tumbleweed house.)
You can buy a storage/work shed bigger than that at Lowe’s.
I could live in one of the bigger houses, no problem.
One ofhe smaller houses would be nice for a deer lease.
My master bath is bigger then those houses! We do have friends that live full
time in an RV. That RV has nicer fixtures that a lot of houses.
There are moonbats in Minneaoplis who belive that no house should have more than 1200 sq. ft. Hey, why stop at 1200 ft. Why not dormitories, like the Chinese sweatshops have? Why not Borg alcoves?
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And the people in the houses
All went to the university,
Where they were put in boxes
And they came out all the same,
And there’s doctors and lawyers,
And business executives,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
And they all play on the golf course
And drink their martinis dry,
And they all have pretty children
And the children go to school,
And the children go to summer camp
And then to the university,
Where they are put in boxes
And they come out all the same.
And the boys go into business
And marry and raise a family
In boxes made of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.
There’s a green one and a pink one
And a blue one and a yellow one,
And they’re all made out of ticky tacky
And they all look just the same.

Designing small houses is not difficult. Making them livebale in small space is another matter. Since becoming more restricted in my mobility, I’ve become quite interested in shrinking spaces but retaining comfortable spaces. HINT: large, spacious bathrooms are a waste of floor space, as are expansive bedrooms. And closets should be planned with a laundry room in mind. And HVAC should be planned with central, ‘in living space’ practicality in mind. And ... well, you get the ‘pitcher’
That two story job Lowe’s sells, if built with 2x6s would make a fair cottage once insulated and plumbed. I’ve actually considered it.
for home
I love the Bed Bath and Beyond plastic bag the guy has in his carbboard carton home.
Erk, that’s ‘cardboard’.
