Tumbleweed Tiny House Company (Greenies' Fantasy)

Welcome. Come on in. My name is Jay Shafer and since 1997 I have been living in houses smaller than some people’s closets. I call the first of my little hand built houses Tumbleweed. My decision to inhabit just 89 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.

Look at the prices on those things! The model he’s standing in front of, 89 sq ft, cost $42,997!

Totally nuts! If you’re going to live in a shed-sized house, it should be dirt cheap. How on earth could anyone spend anywhere close to that much building a “house” that size?

Fitting name.

Tumbleweeds aren’t American either.

Yeah, that is a nice one. I have thought that, once kitted-out, could make for a nifty hunting cabin/getaway.

Great idea for those who choose to live this way. The problem arises when our overlords want to force the peons into such housing while continuing to occupy their own mansions.

Sherman, YOU totally understand liberals!

Only slightly bigger than Obama’s brother's house.

One word for this house.

Personally, I lean this way myself. I think most of us have far too much stuff. After a certain point stuff only weighs us down, it doesn’t make us happier.

But I don’t dream of imposing my preferences in this regard on other people. They have the right to make their own mistakes.

No joke! You can buy a nice two story workshed from Lowe’s for a lot less than that! Even after you wire it and install insulation and drywall, you come out ahead.

Complete with appliances and plumbing?

Less than $20k as a do it yourself, according to the site.

In many parts of the country, you can currently by a modern, well-insulated 3 bedroom, 2 bath McMansion for that price.

The people who design live-aboard yachts and houseboats are the world’s all-time champions in using space efficiently. Have to be.

Living in an outhouse is not the answer. We get hurricanes where I live.

He thinks he’s making a wise use of space. Unless you put 40 of these on one lot of land, you are wasting the land surrounding the structure. You might as well live in a “green prison” where all of the 5x8 cells are next to each other in one dwelling.

That porch and the garden/steps in front of it are an inefficient use of space. Put a ladder there instead and just set a chair in your lawn when you want to get some fresh air (i.e. every minute that you don't absolutely have to be inside the house to shower, s***, shave, sleep, or have conjugal visits).

Pretty sure you're correct. I know they're from Russia.

Where I live, in the Arizona desert, they come from my neighbor's yard. She's a transplant from San Fransicko. Won't kill or remove weeds because she doesn't want to "Scrape the Earth or use chemicals".

She'd be right at home in one of these little boxes.

The ASCPA and PETA would have you taken to jail for animal abuse, the dogs need a bigger doghouse than this. Good news is your jail cell would larger.
