We have some FReepers desperate to get back into the workforce after being laid off, with families to support. Great guys and gals who believe the way you believe. If they are local to you, wouldn't you prefer to give one of them the chance over just anyone off the street?
Just for info. I’m developing easy to do stuff that will drive the other side insane.
Cool vanity bump.
I just started building these and am willing to pay an excellent commission for sales... http://www.minimaxconcrete.com/
Great idea for a thread, self-ping for later.
I own a small company making niche products in a niche market. our products are made of composite materials [primarily carbon fiber], and we have been in business for 18 years.
while we are not flush, we are are doing OK. the US market is dead at this time, and has been for the past year. however our export markets have increased due to the decline in the dollar, more or less making up the difference. our primary export markets are Japan, HK, Taiwan, and Europe behind. we make parts used OEM by some high profile names in the industry, marketed under our name.
we purchased a desktop CNC using Mach 3 software about 4 months ago. we expect to introduce parts made with a new process for us, made with this machine, within the next month.
my current operator has some personal issues, and his current and future commitment is somewhat uncertain. he is a “metalhead”, not used to working with composites. he is doing somewhat OK, but is slow to pick up the difference.
we are located in SE WI. remote programming is a possibility. a confidentiality agreement would be required.
while not our primary activity, have have been requested to consider some fun projects by NASA, Navy subcontractors [did you know some, but not all, whales are affected by Navy sonar? I did not either.], etc. I believe our new process will open significant new markets for us. some projects may be classified.
bottom line: we have the materials, structures, and contacts. I could use some execution talent to get them to market.
if you have an interest send me a FReepmail. confidentiality is assumed.
my VERY best of luck to you all.
Thanks for the post Yaelle. what a great idea. I was encouraged to post to Craigs list. I would far rather post here.
I almost forgot:
“Too Stupid to Quit” is a legitimate management strategy.
from the Viking Runes [I am 1/2 Danish]: there is such a thing as “Opportunity disguised as a loss”.
think about it. it is true.
may the best of fortunes be ahead of you.
Anyone interested in working in NE Louisiana ... we have two new plants coming to this area. One is a ConAgra food processing plant that will be making sweet potato fries and the average salary is supposed to be in the $35-40k range. The other a new upstart automobile assembly plant (V Vehicle) and I don’t remember the pay range, but it will be very good for this area. FReepmail me if you need any additional details or if I can help put you in contact with either of these companies.
Martin, I think one thing I got out of your posts on that thread is that people need to really have the RIGHT references as backup.
A question: is it better to have character witnesses or people in the actual industry?
The reason I ask is because these days, people are jumping at employ in ANY industry, sadly.
Whom would you rather see listed, someone who’s worked with the applicant, a friend, a person of some renown? (Hint for FReepers: referencing Michael Moore or David Axelrod won’t go over well.)
Sorry, I realized after I posted but figured I’d let it lie because I didn’t see the point in making another post.
Besides, I was busy being called invectives on another thread. ;-)

My husband was “right sized” this summer when his company eliminated their whole research and development project.
He has his PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering and has worked for the past 8 years in composite materials. If you might know of something for him, send me a message.
>Here in SoCal the OFFICIAL jobless rate is about 12%, but that doesnt take into account the underemployeds and the I-gave-ups.<
I suspect the true number is probably almost double that amount, but that may be a reckless and wild guess.
Keeping this in the public eye Bump!
Another bump for FReeper Employment!
If any North Texas Freepers are reading this thread, Id like to offer my services to you.
I own and operate a rain gutter and sheet metal business with my wife. Weve been in business now for about 14 years. I specialize in first quality steel and copper gutter systems. You might call me old school, because I learned the trade when it was still a recognized expert profession.
The competition from semi-skilled illegal labor, and the introduction of cheesy modular aluminum gutter systems has nearly destroyed my trade, but Im still here.
Naturally, my rates are much lower than they ought to be, because of the cut-throat competition out there, but I have a family to feed, and Im willing to swallow my professional pride to care for them.
Im currently offering my gutter cleaning and repair services at a low flat rate for any house. I do that job the old fashioned, professional way, too.
I am posting to this thread because I am in desperate need of work at this point. If you, or anyone you know is in need of my services, please Freepmail me. I would very much appreciate it.
I work the entire DFW area.
Thank you,
Windflier
