Stores, hospitals, entertainment venues, and other places where the public are together in large numbers, use secret codes to pass information between store employees. These are meant to be a secret as they dont want to alarm the non-staff members or alert someone (like a thief) to the fact that they have been noticed. Many stores have their own codes for example WalMart, but there are a number that are nearly universal in application. This is a list of ten secret codes that may prove useful to you in future, or at least dispel any curiosity you may have if you hear them.
10-31 means that a crime is in progress. 10-00 (ten double-zero) means officer down all patrols respond. A code 10 in hospitals can refer to a mass casualty or serious threat. On a ship, a code oscar means someone has gone overboard.

In politics, Code “Zero” means incipient Communism.
That is funny - wonder if there is a manual for other codes like that!
That may be so, but a "Code Brown" is much more frequently used in hospitals.
Don't worry though...It has nothing to do with a threat to personnel
A "Code Brown" means someone (usually a patient) just "soiled themselves" and needs to get back into bed or get their shoes changed.
Usage: "I have a LOL (little old lady) with a code brown in room 226; can you help?"
Relevant factoid: the majority of abducted children are dead within 4 hours, most of the rest within 24.
Leaving out the famous hospital codes “calling Dr. Blue” and “paging Dr. Fine”.
“Code Blue”: hospital announcement for “patient is about to die, everyone relevant get your butts in to help NOW”.
One of the reasons I didn’t go into the medical field. Was interested in nursing, but didn’t want to deal with that kind of stuff.
Code gray also refers to a tornado warning in some hospitals.
“Paging Dr Howard, Dr Fine, Dr Howard?” ;)
(nyuk nyuk nyuk)
I was visiting a friend and his wife in the hospital.
Suddenly nurses were running up and down the hall, slamming all the doors shut including ours.
They might as well have been shouting “Somebody just DIED in this ward and we don’t want to demoralize you as we remove the body!”
All abductions or just stranger abductions? I've heard that most abductions are really custody fights between parents/relatives over the child and are thus unlikely to kill the child.
And of course the equalizers, Dr. Smith, Dr. Wesson ....
Sorry, shoulda specified “stranger”.
Thing is, when the kid is taken the difference may not be clear at the time - leaving one with few options but to assume the worst and work FAST. Good reason to be armed.
years ago, back in my college days, some friends and I were at busch gardens, Virginia. On one roller coaster, one of them decided to pull out his “pinch hitter” and fired it up at the top of the coaster, which was right in front of a video camera. oops. we got to the end of the ride and there were several guards running around talking about a”10-2” . we managed to escape, and my buds called any subsequent pinch hit from then on as a 10-2. i had forgotten about that til now.
Yeah!!! A story from our area. Salinas TV rocks. Especially Olga.
