Poor old Ralph Stanley & Obama Girl
YouTube ^ | 10/01/2009 | Thirteen

Posted on 10/01/2009 3:48:19 PM PDT by Thirteen

This is NOT from the Onion or a Republican media creation. My question is: What in the name of God would convince Ralph Stanley to bastardize his own world-famous signature song like this and further perpetuate big media's image of Appalachian ignorance? Is he that desperate for money or has senility set-in and his fellow Democrats are simply taking advantage of his clouded judgment? I'm not only embarrassed for him but for the entire populace of the Appalachian Mountains as well. Please accept my apology.

I’ll be the first to confess ignorance.

I hope he doesn't perform it this weekend at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival.

Sell outs.

There's no such thing as "social justice" without standing for the most basic social justice: sanctity of life.

Obortion stands firmly AGAINST sanctity of life, so he, and anyone supporting him in the name of social justice is a fraud.

How’s that job thing working out? No jobs to be found under Bush? Heck of a lot more than under Obama.

A possible explanation for Stanley is that a lot of elderly people have long trusted and continue to trust the mainstream media. Essentially they have been brainwashed into seeing republicans as the guys in black hats and democrats as the good guys in white hats. Throw in some white guilt and a desire to demonstrate that white southerners aren’t racists, and you have some old-time entertainers who have never been very political come out in full cheerleader mode for Obama (witness Andy Griffith as well).

That does it. A one time fan of Ralph Stanley, not any more. He has ruined himself in the south in general, Appalachia in particular.

“Essentially they have been brainwashed into seeing republicans as the guys in black hats and democrats as the good guys in white hats.”

I wouldn’t call it brainwashing. A lot learned it from their parents or the Great Depression. Still the view in conservative Arkansas.

parsy, who has heard it for years

A lot learned it from their parents or the Great Depression.

Well in that case hopefully over the next few years they'll learn something else: that this ain't their parents or grandparents democrat party.

Ralph Stanley has been an outstanding bluegrass musician for decades .... unfortunately, he has been a hardcore Dem for just as long.

He may be one of those Yellow Dog Democrats who thinks a jackass cannot do any wrong. He obviously hates GW.
