Freep mail me to be on or off the Daily Bread ping list

October 11, 2009
Go Beyond Reading
As the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness . . . longsuffering. —Colossians 3:12

Pastor, where are the Our Daily Bread devotionals?” The words came harshly—almost in anger. The latest edition had not yet been placed in the rack outside the church auditorium. This led at least one reader to confront the pastor about their absence. Although it was not his responsibility to distribute the booklets, he felt terrible about the way this parishioner had reprimanded him for not making sure the devotional guides were there on time.

When I heard this, I was struck by the irony of this situation. Devotional booklets are meant to encourage Christian growth and godly grace. And as followers of Christ who read devotional materials, we hope we are moving toward spiritual maturity that leads to “tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering”—qualities Paul says we should “put on” (Col. 3:12).

Our spiritual disciplines—reading God’s Word along with accompanying study or devotional materials, prayer, and worshiping together—should not be ends in themselves. Instead, those actions are means to becoming more Christlike, more godly, more Spirit-led. Our spiritual practice should lead to having the “Word of Christ dwell in [us] richly” (3:16). That will show in everything we do and say.

I want my heart to be in tune with God,
In every stage of life may it ring true;
I want my thoughts and words to honor Him,
Exalting Him in everything I do. —Hess

Bible study is not merely to inform us— it’s meant to transform us.

Here it’s 55, gray skies, and predictions of rain through Thursday..I am so accustomed to sunny skies that this is a shock! I must give thanks that lakes are being replenished and trees are getting a good soak.

You all have had a lot of rain and needed it badly. Thats one thing we have no control over...LOL!

The sun has made it out and it probably will get into the upper 60’s this afternoon. Leaves are falling fast in my yard. I love those big winds that come along now and then and just blow the leaves out to the street! (sometimes they blow into the neighbor’s yard and I have no control of that either!)LOL!

By the way, your opening was beautiful, as are your individual graphics!

Of course, you are right. I couldn't sleep at night, you couldn't, no one I know could! We are not like them, we cannot understand them unless we understand what motivates them, and this is what I forgot. They live by the motto that the end justify the means, and the end, in their playbook, is the complete destruction of our Constitutional Republic and our Capitalist system. Yes, they are right on target and, as you said, sleeping just fine.

Those of us who live our lives by a set of moral principles cannot understand the morally bankrupt, the looters, the corrupt. America's enemies are insidious and relentless. Greed and power motivates them and they cannot control free people. We are being attacked from without and within. This is going to be a long hard battle, but the two million patriotic Americans who gathered in DC on 9/12 tell me that we are not going to sit idly by while our Constitutional Republic is destroyed.

If the left, by chance, aren't sleeping at night, it should be because they know they have awakened a sleeping giant. Sarah Palin showed us what they truly fear. When she spoke, they knew she spoke for millions upon millions of freedom-loving Americans, and the left went crazy. Yes, we don't deserve freedoms we aren't willing to fight for. The destruction of America cannot happen on our watch! Too many fine Americans died on too many battlefields defending freedom to allow America to be taken down by the likes of Obama and Pelosi and Reid.

Thank you, Meg, for your lovely opening today.

Here is a link that is quite interesting. Move your mouse over a character, and read on the right side of the screen, what it says about that person. Some of the ‘tags’ will surprise you.....

Too many fine Americans died on too many battlefields defending freedom to allow America to be taken down by the likes of Obama and Pelosi and Reid.

There are several more names that could be added to that list. But then...I have never had an opportunity to either vote for or against any of those individuals except Obama. Most probably you haven't either. Not likely that we will get the chance to vote on most of the worst offenders in the future so, how are we going to vote them out? The folks that elected them will probably re-elect them so, I don't think we can solve this at the polls.

We are that house divided that cannot stand of which Jesus spoke. Unlike the last time we came to blows, there are other countries and groups poised to pounce on us like a Rhode Island Red rooster on a June bug so, we can’t solve it that way this time.

We know that if there had been a couple of more righteous folks in Sodom and Gomorrah, things would have gone down different with them. I think we can only hope that God doesn’t share Obama’s dislike for the nation that the Framers founded and that he will move as, I believe he did, when the British were burning Washington during the War of 1812. The hurricane and accompanying tornados, that arrived the day after they started with their destruction, killed more of the British than did the defenders of the city.

Since the Democrats (APUTA) are intent on destroying a whole lot more than just the town by the Potomac, any help from on high would be much appreciated.
