A 14-year-old schoolgirl died hours after being given the controversial cervical cancer vaccine today.
The teenager from Blue Coat Church of England School, in Coventry, died in hospital after receiving the Cervarix jab.
The tragedy marks the first reported death since more than 1.5m doses of the injection were given to young girls as part of a national vaccination programme since last September in the UK.
A number of her classmates have reported side effects to the vaccine.
Critics say the case highlights the risks of mass vaccination, because no testing regime can ever pick up the rarest and potentially most lethal side effects.
Tonight there were calls for the entire cervical cancer vaccination programme to be suspended, but officials from the Department of Health would not say whether it will be halted for tens of thousands of girls due to be given the vaccine in the coming months.
But vaccine experts called for the mass programme to continue, saying it will help save 700 deaths from cervical cancer every year.
The girl died after having the jab administered. It is not yet known definitively whether the jab caused the death and a post mortem will take place.
But the batch of the vaccine used at the school has been quarantined to test whether it is faulty or contaminated during production or distribution.
Some other girls at the school have suffered from dizziness and nausea but it is understood that none have been sent to hospital.
The Cervarix vaccine is currently being given to all girls aged 12 and 13 in a nationwide programme. A catch-up programme will mean that everyone under the age of 18 will be given it by 2011.

And one is what % of 1.5 million ? Must we have a thread over every individual instance of a bad drug reaction ? With hundreds of millions of injections every year, this forum will be nothing but drug conspiracy theories and Darwin haters.
>>>Hey, whats a few dead teenage girls, thats just the price you pay for stopping cervical cancer right?/SAR
Aren’t you asking what are 700 dead teenage girls from preventable cancer? No SAR at all.
700 deaths? Where do you come up with that figure. Are you telling me it is alright with you to sacrifice some of our children on the off chance some of them will might be prevented from getting cancer when they are 44?
Teenage girls should be left alone, there should be no mandates for vaccination(this is in the UK after all so what would I expect except massive violation of people's rights). These girls can take the vaccine when they are grown and decide for themselves if they want it.
Personally if I had a teenage daughter(mine is grown)I would fight tooth and nail against this crap. This is one more instance of someone wanting to make money off a drug by forcing people to take it.

Ummmm, from reading the article posted by Op. Didn’t you?
“But vaccine experts called for the mass programme to continue, saying it will help save 700 deaths from cervical cancer every year.”
Cervical cancer exists, teenagers die from it, health departments count those deaths and report them, and drugs have been developed to counter the problem. Hence we have the subject matter of the thread. Say the effectiveness of the drug is exaggerated and you still have a help/harm ratio highly to the good.
>>>These girls can take the vaccine when they are grown and decide for themselves if they want it.
If they haven’t died from cervical cancer in the meantime. Which is sort of the issue being addressed by the program. Do you likewise think mumps, measles, and polio vaccinations should hold off until the person reaches the age of 21, so they can then choose as adults ? After all each year some children die or suffer health problems from these drugs too. But the ratio weighs heavily to the good.

Stop the presses. There ain’t no free lunch. What a novel concept for FreeRepublic.
I am leary of any vaccine that is suppose to prevent cancer that in young girls..Young girls don’t die from that type of cancer. .Cancer is not one disease, but a multiple of diseases...
That is not the primary intent. The idea is to get the girls to produce antibodies against the virus before they are sexually active, before they most likely to contract HPV. It is still not known how long the protection provided by the vaccine will last, though the CDC says "a long time." Booster inoculations might be necessary years after the initial series.
Government and the culture teaches sex has no consequences, they never teach the consequences of such a life...that is the sad part of the vaccine.. results in STD that were never even heard of decades back, abortion if you get P.G. party on....I wonder how many actual tests were done on this vaccine before it was let loose on the teen-age girls...
For that to work, you also have to teach the boys not to have sex before marriage, and teach married partners to never cheat.
I knew an adult woman who died of cervical cancer apparently as a consequence of contracting HPV from her cheating husband. Had she been given the vaccine as a young woman, and perhaps received a booster shot or two, she might be alive today.
