And the build quality sucks, by all accounts. The crash tests for makers like Brilliance and Chery are nothing short of shocking.

As this crash test illustrates. The crash was so severe you needed a crowbar to jimmy the door open, and what are the chances of a passerby arriving on the scene with a crowbar? The survival rate for the occupants would have been negligible.

Seen the one for the “Landwind” SUV? Sheesh. And the Chery compact goes SPLAT at about 30mph.

This is hugh (sic).

Give them 20 years, and they will catch up. The Chinese are series (sic), and are doing their homework.

For now, the safety stinks.

I hadn’t heard that. Just did some looking and found that a Turkish company, and Indian corp., and some other Eastern European firm is interested (and a Russian).

Ooopps.. that was from August 2008...

The last thing I heard about the deal was on the radio about a week or so ago; Hummer is still up for grabs. China already makes Humvee knock offs and has done so for a few years.

I first heard that in 2000. There's been no change whatsoever in a decade. It's a society mandated to achieve engineering goals solely via intellectual theft.
