I'm in need for some ammo to throw at a liberal here and the search is failing me again.
Does anyone have examples of precedents to Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst in Congress during Obama's speech? I have an idiot here who is claiming that this has *never* happened before, ever. I know I've read of some (like the 06 SOTU) and I used that one, but he won't accept that and he wants an exact parallel situation, where a Congressman heckled a speaking President.
Anyone got any references? Thanks.
GW Bush State of the union address 2005
Hell, there used to be fist fights in the House and Senate.
If it's "never happened before" - it's quite obvious! We've never had a socialist President trying to take away our constitutional freedoms!!! Tell the 'idiot' that's what happens when Americans come under assault by their own 'President'!
I believe in the 1800’s one congressman beat another with a cane so badly he died days later.

* On Dec. 6, 1916, The Washington Post reported this kerfuffle during a speech by Woodrow Wilson:
“Woman suffrage in its militant form showed itself at the Capitol yesterday afternoon when the attempt was made to interrupt the President in the reading of his address to Congress by flinging from the gallery a vivid yellow banner inscribed in great black letters: ‘President Wilson, what will you do for woman suffrage?’
GWB State of the Union that was loudly and extremely rudely booed by MANY ‘rats.
We should have the entire Republican delegation shouting our
Here’s your response to them - Joe shouted out the truth!! It is Obama that should apologize for lying to the american people.
That is the best thing that could have happened - getting in their faces is the only way our side gets any attention.
Interesting that ever since that shout, the congress critters have been falling all over themselves adding language that would effectively exclude illegals. If Obama was telling the truth why all this scrambling afterwards??

Furthermore, he’s creating conditions of satisfaction that are impossible to meet. Set a few for him, and tell him you can do the same thing. If necessary, spell out for him that this debate tactic is in bad faith.
I like some of the other answers here.
So what if Wilson set a precedent?
Calling a liar a liar has always been an honorable thing.
Dishonor is letting a liar get away with it without calling them out.
The pollys must be feeling the heat because the people have been shouting out for years.
Here are a bunch of clips complied by a RedState blogger - http://www.redstate.com/fmaidment/2009/09/12/throwing-it-right-back-liberal-hypocrisy-about-joe-wilson/
I’m at a loss as to why Bush was booed for telling the truth. I guess the truth is simply not acceptable to many Congressional Democrats.
Get the cheapest lead ammo you can find.
Don’t waste your time of full metal jacketed ammo.
Give them the cheap stuff.
Oh! Were you referring to another type of ammo?
A congresswoman let some hecklers from Code Pink have passes to the SOTU so they could heckle President Bush.
I believe there is no need to defend his ‘outburst’. As was pointed out by some talking head today, if the applause and ovations are allowed (tolerated), i.e., the agreement can be displayed, then why cannot dissent be made also?
Apparently in the past the speeches to Congress were given without ANYONE making a sound.
