Furious Serena Williams dumped out of U.S. Open after she told an official: 'If I could, I'd ...

This was the dramatic moment when Serena Williams screamed her way out of the U.S. Open.

TV viewers around the world saw the irate Wimbledon champion launch a threatening, profanity-laced tirade at a female line judge after being called for a foot fault.

'If I could, I would take this f****** ball and shove it down your f****** throat,' she reportedly said.

The diminutive lineswoman reported her words to the umpire, who called in the tournament referee at Flushing Meadows in New York.

With the crowd booing, Miss Williams could be heard on the court microphone pleading with the lineswoman, saying: 'I didn't say I would kill you. Are you serious? I didn't say that.'

But her extraordinary outburst meant she was docked a point on match point, handing a semi-final victory to bemused Belgian opponent Kim Clijsters in one of the ugliest-ever endings to a major sports match.

Miss Williams had already received a warning for smashing a racquet, so the next sanction was a penalty point for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Not since John McEnroe was defaulted in the Australian Open in 1990 for swearing at the umpire has a top player made such an ignominious exit from such a high-profile match.

It happened when, with the 27-year-old American serving at 5-6 and 15-30 in the second set, she faulted on her first serve.

On her second serve, the line judge declared a foot fault, a call rarely, if ever, seen at that stage of a match.

That made the score 15-40, putting Miss Clijsters one point from a place in the final.

Miss Williams stormed over to the line judge, cursing and shaking her racquet, pointing at her and thrusting a ball in her face.

The association must get out front on this situation. This is not about a black, talented tennis payer, one of the best int he world. It is about the structure of the game/sport. The line judge is no more than a part of the equipment for the staging of the event. The player has decorum guidelines which must not be allowed to be pissed upon. A player lost control of herself and verbally assaulted a line judge and made threatening moves toward the line judge. That must not be allowed. The player must be fined and suspended, without regard to race or sexual orientation.

Several years ago, a player became enraged and smacked a ball at the chair umpire, hitting the chap in the hand he stuck out to block the missile. The penalties were quite severe, as they must be. If a player cannot control themselves they have no business ont he court.

It is sad that such a talented young woman who lost control of herself will be manipulated and used as a pinata for the race baiters game. We have it right here at FR going on today. Shameful, almost as shameful as Serena's behavior.

Your statement is what you said, it is your perspective. I don’t generalize my perspective.

"The line Judge made a bad call"?

Are you saying there was no foot fault?

“”The line Judge made a bad call”?

It was not clearly a foot fault, no to any greater extent than any of the other players had commited. In fact, to my knowledge, she was the only player in the whole tournament who had this call made against her. And, what game do you know where a score or point is awarded, thus granting the opponent a victory. Even in soccer, the stupid penalty kick awarded for a foul inside the box requires the formality of performing the kick before granting the point.

“you can't necessarily play the race card here, afterall this is liberal New York,”

You are correct; the anti Serena / pro Clisters sentiment of the crowd and judge is much more complex than just plain old racism. It goes to their liberal elitist bias which involves a pro-european prejudice for all things European, manifesting in this particular tennis player. I am finding it hard to believe that any self respecting Freeper would be favoring a Belgian over an American in any sporting event. Just ask yourself; “what has a Belgian or the Belgians done for the U.S. lately, or ever for that matter? How many Belgian troops are in Iraq, Afghanistan?

Condi is well loved here. But black-looking black women are ridiculed. Not my favorite person and her couture leaves a lot to be desired, but Obama’s wife, gets ridiculed for her physicallooks daily here. And she is a great looking black woman. She is attractive in a big woman way.

It doesn’t matter...you obviously have the same deranged sensibility...and prejudice.

We all have prejudice. That is just a fact. I questioned the narrative because of my different experiences when the memebers of the black community and the membres of the Asian communtiy bump. I would think the same if it were a black foot watcher and an Asian player.

“Asians often hate blacks...”

Really? Maybe because they get sick of having their stores robbed at gun point.

See, I can make stupid comments too.

I agree with you it is BS. We all are prejudice and we all can hate. But we do not always do so. People tend to be more comfortable in their groups. I live on the edge of a color line and it is an interesting place.
