Doctors and nurses suspended for playing Facebook 'Lying Down Game'

A group of doctors and nurses have been suspended after bosses caught them posting photographs of themselves playing 'The Lying Down Game' on Facebook.

Seven staff at Great Western Hospital, in Swindon, Wilts., allegedly took part in the internet craze by lying down on resuscitation trollies, ward floors and a heli-pad.

The group, from the hospital's A & E department and Acute Assessment Unit, had been working a night shift and posted photographs of the stunt on Facebook.

Contestants playing 'The Lying Down Game' must lie face down with the palms of their hands against their sides and the tips of their toes pointing at the ground.

The international craze swept the internet earlier this year with 'players' competing to take photographs of one another in unusual locations.

A source at Great Western Hospital (GWH), who works for NHS Swindon but refused to be named, described the suspensions as a "nightmare" for those involved.

The source said: "It's a right mess. It's been a nightmare week for them. The person who started it is really worried. It reflects badly on the department.

"It was just some nurses and doctors on nights having fun, but photos got onto Facebook and management found out.

I never heard of this phenomenon, so here are some pics of people apparently "having fun."

These crazy kids!

Whatever floats the boat. I couldn’t help but notice, pig that I am, that in your first photo, the top lady in the white shirt had the unfair advantage of deployed upper body stabilizers on each side of the branch.

I’m confused... what’s the problem here?

God forbid anyone have any kind of harmless silly fun anymore. Sheesh.

I guess I don’t see the harm...

I see greater harm in suspending medical professionals from Britain's already overburdened NHS.

From the article:

Hospital bosses were alerted to the prank by a whistleblower and the medics may now face the sack after being suspended on full pay.

I guess this person made a stink and that caused the administration to take action. I agree with you that it's no big deal in my eyes.

I think their behavior illustrates the difference between professionals and employees.

Add me to the list...it seems a little stupid but not worth suspending anyone over.

Give ‘em a warning and some smelly work for a week if it’s a first offense. If they’ve been good boys and girls and do their chores well and folks are pleased, remove it from their records.

It’s a sign of the times. Nobody can have fun in the workplace due to the fact that others might feel uncomfortable or offended and make an HR complaint.

I recently read a biography on Richard Feynmann, the famous physicist. Even though his work was often serious (Manhattan Project, Challenger Disaster, etc.), he never took himself too seriously and wasn't above goofing off in the workplace every now and then. He was well known for playing (harmless) pranks on co-workers.

We are certainly living in different times now.

Really suspended because you took some goofy photos to kill the hours of the night shift? Seriously, unless someone could show these people neglected their duties or put lives at risk doing the stuff, no way I’d reprimand them for this sort of thing.

Morale only improves when people have at least some fun.

I think the current version of this for politicians is called “lying down with someone other than my wife with my pants unzipped”
