Very good report here. Including the German official position that Churchill ordered the Athena sunk. Nothing on the Saar is being reported in Berlin, not surprisingly.

Update on the Paul Gurtler item:

Paul Gurtler, Sudeten-born, Canadian-naturalized ex-sergeant in the German Army, who volunteered as a private in the Canadian Army (TIME, Sept. 18), failed to pass his physical examination, could not qualify to fight against his ex-subordinate, A. Hitler.

Looks like he would have held propaganda value (or been useful in intelligence) even if he wasn’t fit enough to hit the trenches.
