What turns children to violence?
BBC ^ | September 4, 2009 | Peter Jackson

Posted on 09/06/2009 5:46:50 PM PDT by myknowledge

The sadistic attack on two boys aged nine and 11 by a pair of brothers of similar age has shocked and appalled in equal measure.

But what background did the attackers themselves have and what turned them to such extreme violence?

As the horrors of the bloody attack on two young boys in Edlington, near Doncaster, are digested, a picture is emerging of the feral, troubled upbringing of their abusers.

Whichever side of the story you focus on, it makes uncomfortable reading.

The young attackers grew up in a large family with a mother who left them to their own devices because she could not control them.

'Playing gone wrong'

A relative claims she fed them food laced with cannabis to get them to sleep and allowed them to watch horror movies on their own as young as six or seven.

Their father, the relative told the BBC, was "tough... maybe a little too tough" and one neighbour claimed he encouraged them to fight at a young age.

When their father moved out of their three-bedroom home last Christmas, the boys' behaviour reportedly worsened. Both were on the child protection register and eventually placed in foster care.

No wonder society in general has stooped to a new low, as 1st Timothy 3:1-7 predicted. Children are driven to the same violence as adults.

This is a real no-no today:

Prov.13:24

[24] He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Part of the problem is the “parent(s)” are typically more crewed up than their kids!

Prov.22:15

[15] Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

Many adults, posing as “parent(s)” are still children. So you have foolish “adults” raising children. It’s a disaster.

George Bush.

Just kidding. He gets the blame for everything else, so why not.

The person who wrote this article does not understand human nature. You don’t have to teach children to beat up other children, to steal or to throw tantrums. You have to teach them not to do these things.

You know what breaks my heart? Not only what these boys have done, but what they have gone through, how they have been (not) cared for their whole lives. No one in their whole world that probably ever nurtured them, hugged them, tucked them in, came in when they cried in the middle of the night, told them they were special and made them feel loved, even when they were little guys. Just having one person like that in a child’s life can make such a difference.

That's not necessarily true; some people are just barbarians, even at that tender age.

True.

Then the children of liberals grow up to have dysfunctional children. See the cycle of family dysfunctionality?

From the sounds of their family, it’s probably true. The parents hardly sound like caring, nurturing people. Feeding young kids pot to put them to sleep? Ye gods. Plus, there have been numerous calls to authorities over the years about this family.

Liberal parents have dysfunctional kids.

LOL. It's not just liberals who are sh1tty parents. My dad was an arch conservative. I can't even imagine someone more conservative than him. If you called him a liberal, he'd probably shoot you.

Anyway. He was my parent. He was conservative. Look how I turned out.

You want to go around and put political blinders on yourself, you'll miss a lot of hard truths out there in the world.

Yep. It's not like you become a sociopath at the age of majority- suddeny psychopathic. Experts reckon it's both a nature and nurture thing- maybe you have sociopathy predisposed in your genes and then you're exposed to an environment that... Fertilizes that.

But it doesn't really matter. These two kids. They won't ever be anything but trouble. They will always be violent. Even if they're not actively doing violence, they will be thinking about it almost every moment of their lives. You'd never want to turn your back on them.

It would be better, in all honesty, just to take them out and shoot them because nothing can make them better. I want to say it would be 'more humane' but it's difficult to consider them human anymore. They lack a lot of the things that people think of when they think of 'human'. And they're never going to aquire those things.

When children are taught they are not made in God’s image because there is no God, or that God is someone to be hated, they act like the animals they believe they are.

Nonsense. There was no God in our house and all five of us are law abiding non-violent normal citizens. Probably animals to you since we don't worship God...but your broad brush falls flat here.

I don’t wear “blinders”. I just know what I see.

So, what’s wrong with YOU?

I find it interesting that your miniker is the Prodigal Son. Did Dad also take you back when you realized your wrong turn in life? If so, was he really as terrible as you claim? What made your dad so awful, in your eyes ?

Yes, it's a nasty family recipe that keeps getting passed down through the generations ... unless one humbles themselves and willingly sees the light and changes.

I can relate to your post. As a former youth pastor, I saw this a lot. wild feral kids left to raise themselves. We took in a wild 13 year old, didn't know his right hand from his left. wild, mean,un-raised. now 5 years later hes doing fine, has joined the U.S. Army, and is getting good grades in school (despite being 4 grades down 5 years ago)

As Christians we have the RESPONSIBILTY to care for widows and orphans. James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. there are between 3,500 and 11,000 (depending on who you ask)kids in the United States that are free for adoption waiting in foster homes or group homes. about 200,000,000 people regularly attend church. you think 200 million people could find a place in their hearts for 11,000 kids...

I am sorry to say that children need a great deal of discipline (not just spanking, but rewards, punishments, admonition, example setting, instruction, effort, time invested, love) to grow up halfway decently.

We are not sweet little angels. We are sinners. We don’t naturally behave very well.

You can’t just dope them and abandon them and terrorize them and then hope they turn out ok.

“There was no God in our house and all five of us are law abiding non-violent normal citizens.”

I’d be interested in knowing what reason your parents gave/used to “keep you in line.” Ultimately, your own self- interest? Or?
