It makes me think it’s a trap. Such a statement is fraught with danger. On the other hand maybe there is a context that might justify it. Depends. Such as when there is no hope of law enforcement.

Justice does not always equal punishment. We put so many people in jail for the most horrible crimes but it just doesn't seem like enough sometimes.
How often have you heard someone whos' loved one was a victim of a criminal say that they would execute the perp themselves if they could. Would it really help them feel any better about it? I don't know.

Killing someone except in self defense or in war is illegal. Life is more complicated then in fiction but people do what they feel they have to. I prefer my violence to be in the movies.
