Former Democratic strategist turned journalist George Stephanopoulos appeared on Thursday’s Good Morning America to declare that President Obama’s address to Congress on September 9 must "intimidate Republicans a little bit." Stephanopoulos, who was a top aide to Bill Clinton, added that the White House should force the GOP to "make sure they understand the consequences of failure."

This is why Georgie is a tv talking head now, instead of a high level political advisor. Kind of hard to intimidate the party who stands to benefit from public opinion if they play their cards even halfway right.

The Republicans have very little power to shape legislation, the Democrats don’t need them on anything they can get their own party to agree to.
And what are they going to threaten them with, an electoral minority? Been there, doing that.
