A woman who was snatched from a bus stop as an 11-year-old child in 1991 turned up Thursday after being held for the past 18 years in isolation in a backyard compound by a convicted sex offender who fathered two children with her, police said.
The details about her time in captivity emerged after Jaycee Lee Dugard surfaced at a police station in Northern California, nearly two decades after she vanished outside her home.
Police said Phillip Garrido, 58, held her the entire time as a virtual slave, sheltered from the outside world in tents, sheds and outbuildings in his backyard in suburban Antioch.

Heartbreaking situation.
I don’t know how old your children are, but sooner the better
Why?
Justaham, I’d like to know why too.
Because the government does such a good job at keeping an eye on the past offenders
Because the government does such a good job at keeping an eye on the past offenders
Same with the mentally ill. Close all the mental hospitals and the government is going to community services, and community based meds clinics...If they ever showed up or cooperated.
same sorry job the government does on everything
Evil hypocritical godless sack of sh!t should be physically and emotionally destroyed before being sent straight the h#ll.
And yes, I am holding back.
It’s hard to imagine how it worked out that they could live in that backyard for so long. And also, there is the question about where this girl (and her daughters) were, when Garrido was in jail. He was released in 1999 (if I read that correctly). So, what was this girl and her daughters doing when he was in jail?
It’s just too weird...
Looks like he was building up for an insanity defense.
This takes some wind out of the argument that the Austrians are worse than us.
In a dramatic confession during a phone interview, a Bay Area sex offender has admitted to doing a “disgusting thing” — an apparent reference to the 1991 kidnapping of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who was found safe in Concord on Wednesday.
Phillip Garrido confessed to the crime Thursday, California corrections officials said. “My life has been straightened out,” Garrido told a reporter from KCRA, an NBC affiliate based in Sacramento. “Wait ‘til you hear the story of what took place at this house. You’re gonna be absolutely impressed. It’s a disgusting thing that took place in the beginning. But I turned my life completely around ... I’m so sorry.”
Look for the address on Google Maps. There are tarps all over the property and a very large tree/shrub that could hide a small building.
1554 Walnut Ave Antioch, California 94509
I would turn him loose in the general jail population and let it be known what he did. Hopefully the inmates will get a little justice on him.
“Erika Pratt, 25, who lived next door two years ago, said she was continuously “freaked out” by Garrido’s behavior, and that when she popped her head over the fence she saw his secret compound. She saw tents, sheds and pit bull dogs, and water hoses leading from her house next door to the compound.
“He told us to come on over and hear him talk about God, but he was really weird,” Pratt said. “He had little girls and women living in that back yard, and they all looked kind of the same. They never talked, and they kept to themselves.”
Pratt said people came and went from the property, but the core group consisted of two girls about 4 years old, one girl about 11, another girl about 15 and a young woman about 25. They were all blonde, she said.
Pratt added that she called police to investigate, but after officers went to Garrido’s door, “they told me they couldn’t go inside because they didn’t have a warrant. So they just told him they’d keep an eye on him.”
Haydee Perry, 35, who lives next door, said that when Phillip Garrido helped her jump-start her car a month ago, he had a pre-adolescent girl clinging to him in a manner that struck her as strange.
“
The girl told Perry that Garrido was her father and that she had older sisters, including one who was 28 - which is one year younger than Jaycee Dugard is believed to be now.”

I’m ready to start firing up Sparky for the judges and parole board officials that keep letting these convicted child rapists back out into the free world. This guy was originally sentenced to 50 years and if he’d been made to serve his sentence, none of this ever would have happened.
Apparently his wife was totally on board with the whole project. According to several reports I’ve read, she was also sexually abusing Jaycee.
Why the H*!! should police need a warrant to search the home of a registered sex offender??? The whole point of sex offender registration is supposed to be so they can be treated differently from other people in ways that make it more difficult for them to reoffend.
Okay, now I'm willing to move these "authorities" ahead of Mr. and Mrs. Garrido in the line for swift prosecution and execution. Look at the aerial photos of that place (which you can look at right on Google!). If anybody who was sent to "inspect" the home of a registered sex offender failed to "discover" this backyard compound, they're simply lying about having inspected the place. That's the kind of lie that should cost you your life. You KNOW what kind of despicable acts this guy has been convicted of committing in the past, you KNOW your job is to check out his living quarters for any evidence he's re-offending, and if you either just plain lie about have gone there at all or just plain lie about having made any effort at all to inspect the place, you KNOW there's a very real possibility you're enabling him to continuing raping young girls.
Sounds like he was on the way to fathering his own cult.
No punishment can replace what the young lady has lost, but I sure hope the whack-job gets put away for good this time without ever having any opportunity for parole. There is no way he should ever be permitted to roam free in society again. What an absolute travesty.
