I think that Kennedy’s demise is exceptionally well-timed, but for the Republicans. Due to the Massachusetts law Kennedy championed when Kerry ran for president in 2004, and belatedly tried to get repealed in recent weeks, his replacement in the Senate must be selected by the voters in a special election, and no earlier than 135 days after his death.
The Democrats and their allied independents (Lieberman and Sanders) have only 59 votes now. The filibuster is back.
Can they change it now after he is dead or is it too late?
“The Democrats and their allied independents (Lieberman and Sanders) have only 59 votes now. The filibuster is back.”
The filibuster is back if we can get our cowardly Senators to act. There are so many RINOS, I have to wonder. My Republican Senator Dick Lugar is looking worse than my Democrat Senator Evan Bayh.
Maybe that is why Feingold said there would not be a vote before Christmas, er Winter Holiday.
The irony is delicious.
Also Mitt Romney should run for Teddy’s seat. I bet he could captialize on voter’s discontent and win. Fauxbama’s super majority will be gone.
The corrupt MA legislature will double-time a bill to allow the current governor to select a temporary replacement. It’s already in the works.
Hehheheh!
