In 2007, 1,802 Germans played Smoke On the Water in unison to enter the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest recorded guitar ensemble. That record was topped Sunday afternoon at Luckenbach, when 1,859 pickers played Luckenbach, Texas and This Land Is Your Land.
1,859 guitar players in one spot- and it wasnt an Eric Johnson concert!
The Pickin For the Record event was organized by the Voices of a Grateful Nation, a support group for American soldiers and veterans, whose Welcome Home Project was the beneficiary.
Pickers paid $10 each, but they received a t-shirt commemorating their participation. The guitar army also played Gary P. Nunns London Homesick Blues, also known as I Wanna Go Home With the Armadillo.

Go, Texas!
Hey! One of those guys is cheating - he has a mandolin!
I hope they at least kept the banjos out.
Banjos?
Banjos?!
WE DON’ NEED NO STEENKEENG BANJOS!!!
Love love love Luckenbach. If you have never been you are missing out on a huge piece of Texas!
That is a really big banjo...
Everybody is somebody in Luckenbach...
You know what they say about a guy with a big banjo...
Got a couple of those Tee Shirts!
I registered and payed the $10 for the Veterans but i couldn’t make it to Luckenbach Sunday. Both my sisters and my brother in law and other friends made it though. Said it was awesome. Should have been there to make it 1860.
banjos are awesome - I just brought another one
“Play some Skynrd, man!”
I’m sure Waylon was there in spirit.

Oh come on, they really counted that? You could teach a 3 year old to play the power chords for Smoke on the Water in about 2 minutes. If they count that, I say we get 2,000 Freepers to play “Louie Louie” and take the record for ourselves.
