LEESBURG, Va. - Leesburg Police confirm a 20-year-old resident and another dog were killed by a family member's two pit bulls.
Carter Delaney was killed by his brother's young pit bulls and neighbors say his grandfather made the disturbing discovery in the 100 block of Plaza Street NE shortly before 2 p.m. Monday.
"We were really saddened by it. Me and my kids are going to come out and put something down," said neighbor Doodie Summers.
Neighbors who lived near the Leesburg home where Delaney was mauled to death by two family pit bulls were shocked. "Oh my God, it is a true family tragedy," said neighbor Joe Neville.
Leesburg Police released the medical examiner's preliminary autopsy findings and said Delaney's body was covered with puncture wounds - dog bites. There was a deadly wound around his neck, cutting off blood to his brain.
The report has lead detectives to conclude two 4-year-old pit bulls, that were staying at the home, attacked and killed Delaney. Another dog, a small pug mix was also found dead.
Neighbors speculate if Delaney was trying to protect the smaller dog, his mother's pet, when the pit bulls turned violent.
"Did the dogs attack the small dog? Did the male try to intervene on some level? [It's being] treated officially as a suspicious death," said Officer Chris Jones of the Leesburg Police Department.
Delaney was home alone with the dogs. Officials say the two American pit bulls were registered and licensed to his brother. The dogs are now quarantined at the Loudoun County (web | news) Animal Shelter pending the investigation.
Long time neighbors say Delaney was well-known and well liked. Some neighbors witnessed the grandfather's arrival at the disturbing discovery and the family's race to the home.
"Our neighbors took care of the grandfather and hopefully... he was comforted," said neighbor Joe Neville.
A family friend who didn't want to show her face on camera said they had no idea anything like this could ever happen. "There can be pit bulls that are very well behaved. But you never know, you never know when they're going to snap. You never know when that's going to happen. And it was just a sad situation," she said.
Good Lord! Perhaps you could call the Humane Society - or the Police?

I have made 6 calls to the local cops and animal control,,,
We have been chased in the house twice by them damned dawgs!
I had my life threatened after call # 5,,,
They were ALL told that ANYTHING or ANYBODY that comes
across my wire will be shot dead as is my right in the
state of Louisiana > . <,,,
I really don’t care any more...
The only damage I ever got from a dog was from a chihuahua that ate up my hand when I was 10 years old. I was trying to pet it. Its owner was terribly worried that my folks would sue or something but My daddy was of a different outlook- “Son, you stuck you hand in it. Learn the lesson!” Next day I didn’t think anything of it but wore a bandage.
annihilated from nihil- nothing. It really means made nothing.
'jay was talking about six dogs; that is 1/3 of a cent per dog.
People KNOW that breed has the greatest potential to be a lethal weapon, yet they keep them in a family setting. I hope their dog is sweet and nothing happens. But their saying their pit is incapable of violence and sweet, on a thread about some horrible deaths, is strange psychology.
All this chat about sweet pit bulls reminds me of the good family men who worked in the Nazi extermination camps. Sweetness means nothing. It is one's ability to wage violence and destruction.
What we need is a cash for killer dog program. /s
I have friendly relations with a number of chis owned by a couple of friends. I do not, however, stick my hand down to pat their heads until I know they have recognized me. Actually, they are pretty good burglar alarms. I don’t particularly care for them as a breed, or any of the other toy breeds, especially the ones bred for cute. As individuals some of them work out okay and get past my bias.
It’s called a bounty and I agree.
Rotty’s scare the crap out of me. Might as well have a per bear. The owners aren’t strong enough to restrain them if they go off. I personally choose not to risk my life being around them. Or pit bulls. German Shephards are scary too, but I trust them a little more than Rottys or pit bulls. I think they are smarter, more stable in the head. Pit bulls are ugly little demons. Kill em all. Feed em to the homeless.
RIP.
Glad to hear things might get better for you..I’ll be hopeing they move. Give Harley a hug from me and a respectful hello to your lady..
The “Dog of Peace.”
got a chuckle out of your tag...
Chows are another breed I would give a wide berth...Their disposition is not one of friendliness..they bite a lot, but I don’t think they kill like pits..
???????
Pardon ?
