LEESBURG, Va. - Leesburg Police confirm a 20-year-old resident and another dog were killed by a family member's two pit bulls.
Carter Delaney was killed by his brother's young pit bulls and neighbors say his grandfather made the disturbing discovery in the 100 block of Plaza Street NE shortly before 2 p.m. Monday.
"We were really saddened by it. Me and my kids are going to come out and put something down," said neighbor Doodie Summers.
Neighbors who lived near the Leesburg home where Delaney was mauled to death by two family pit bulls were shocked. "Oh my God, it is a true family tragedy," said neighbor Joe Neville.
Leesburg Police released the medical examiner's preliminary autopsy findings and said Delaney's body was covered with puncture wounds - dog bites. There was a deadly wound around his neck, cutting off blood to his brain.
The report has lead detectives to conclude two 4-year-old pit bulls, that were staying at the home, attacked and killed Delaney. Another dog, a small pug mix was also found dead.
Neighbors speculate if Delaney was trying to protect the smaller dog, his mother's pet, when the pit bulls turned violent.
"Did the dogs attack the small dog? Did the male try to intervene on some level? [It's being] treated officially as a suspicious death," said Officer Chris Jones of the Leesburg Police Department.
Delaney was home alone with the dogs. Officials say the two American pit bulls were registered and licensed to his brother. The dogs are now quarantined at the Loudoun County (web | news) Animal Shelter pending the investigation.
Long time neighbors say Delaney was well-known and well liked. Some neighbors witnessed the grandfather's arrival at the disturbing discovery and the family's race to the home.
"Our neighbors took care of the grandfather and hopefully... he was comforted," said neighbor Joe Neville.
A family friend who didn't want to show her face on camera said they had no idea anything like this could ever happen. "There can be pit bulls that are very well behaved. But you never know, you never know when they're going to snap. You never know when that's going to happen. And it was just a sad situation," she said.
Just another coincidence.
When I was a kid a local dairy and produce farm in town had a pair of Dobermans and one morning the owner was going out to harvest some fresh vegetables and the dogs turned on him and he had to shoot them.
Never once have I heard of a yorkshire terrier turning violent and killing anyone. Almost every day, I read about pit-bulls attacking. I am sure there are some sweet pits, but IMHO, every one of them should be sterilized at birth.
Violent crime rate among Pit Bulls is about the SAME AS HUMANS IN DETROIT!
Violent crime rate among Pit Bulls is about the SAME AS HUMANS IN DETROIT!
But the pit lovers aren't men, they are just pits with 2 legs...I am sick of hearing He is such a sweet dog and wouldn't hurt anybody, as the ambulance takes another victim to the hospital...There is quite a handful of those lovers of pits on Free Republic...
Funny, I use to say the same thing about all Kennedy's.. neutered at birth...they breed like rats....

Large, muscular dogs such as rottweilers and pit bulls have been blamed for the majority of fatal dog bites that have occurred during the last two decades. But data from CDC studies show that small dogs such as dachshunds, cocker spaniels and *even a Yorkshire terrier have killed humans*. In Los Angeles last year, a Pomeranian caused fatal injuries to a 6-week-old baby in her crib. “Bites by Chihuahuas are probably as numerous as bites by German shepherds,” says Bonnie Beaver, executive director of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists at Texas A&M University.

Ban pit Yorkies!
:)
oh yeah
I was once nipped on the ankle by a tea cup poodle.
The word of the LORD came to me: 13 "Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its men and their animals, 14 even if these three menNoah, Daniel [a] and Jobwere in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign LORD.
15 "Or if I send wild beasts through that country and they leave it childless and it becomes desolate so that no one can pass through it because of the beasts, 16 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.
Don’t get me started, Yorkie. I have a Chi-mix, and I’ve never seen a headline saying “Chihuahua attacks and kills little boy” either.
Pit-bull owners are an interesting “breed” all their own.
There is a reason why you never see dog-fighting rings being busted up by the police that fight German Shepherds, or Labs, or cocker spaniels.
It doesn’t mean those dogs can’t be mean. It just means they’ve never been bred to be vicious. Too much inbreeding and cruelty over the years, and now we have an entire breed(s) that needs to be annihalated (in my opinion).
yep, see my post no. 3 GG. so far no pit bull lovers have shown up like we always get but you nailed it. 2 legged pit bulls is right. there gutless, have to act tough thru the damn animal. pathetic. pathetic that some of our fellow FReepers have this little dick problem that they work out thru a vicious animal.
That’s good. People keep all sorts of pets. I know people who love snakes. Not that I’m comparing the two, it’s a personal preference. It’s not a coincidence that pits are favored by inner city thugs. It is in their nature by human design over many generations to take to violence. I love animals in general. Other breeds have similar tendencies of course. Hard to view a puppy as dangerous. The pit issue is, due to the inner city/drug thug component, getting a lot more attention IMO.
LOL you know them so well........
