HELLO!? Is this thing on? Good! Listen! Don't vote for Sarah Palin In 2012! America is attacked in 2013 she uses FEMA to lock up her oppenents and then takes over the world! Also they find a cure for Down syndrome and Trig becomes a brutal dictator killing billions!
This helps Michelle Obama XII Become intergalactic dictator. Please don't vote for... OMG! Someones coming!
Well, of course!
By the Monkees????
LOL
Things are good here today. It’s a beautiful sunny day, pleasantly cool. The children went out this morning, and then stayed in playing games during the sunniest hours, and now they’re all supposed to be going out again (but I see Tom lurking in his room, hoping to be overlooked ...)
I had a nap with Frank, which I desperately needed after three difficult nights. DP helped James catch a fish. Ash napped in the sun and then went for a walk to impress the neighbors. One asked if she can run down coyotes! (Guffaw ...)
Bill and DP are going kayaking now. Frank is still asleep, and Vlad fell asleep on the sofa downstairs.
Tomorrow morning we’ll load up in the midmorning, and then stop at the antique boat show between here and the interstate on the way home.
So. In all this, did you manage to get your batteries restored?
I’m watching the human side of 9/11, even though it’s not what I wanted to do. At least (for me) some of the pain is gone. Heroes RULE!!!
Didn’t you know that? First 45 I bought. Flip side, “I’m Not Your Stepping Stone.”
It’s a beautiful day here too, in the way only a warm early fall/Indian-summer day can be. Went out for a walk at noon to enjoy it.
Didnt you know that? First 45 I bought. Flip side, Im Not Your Stepping Stone.
First 45 rpm record I ever owned that wasn't by the original Chipmunks was a present from my parents: Eydie Gorme's "Blame It On the Bossa Nova." I should have had them charged with child abuse. ;)
First rock and roll 45 rpm record I ever owned: the Beatles' "Twist and Shout" in 1964. If I'd been able to preserve that record it'd be worth a fortune today.
This has been a nice break from Real Life, even though we brought a lot of it with us! I’ve had more naps in the last week than in the month previous, and I’ve made a lot of progress on the book about Korea that I’m reading.
Nobody except Bill has done any schoolwork, but that was brought as a last resort. Vlad’s turned up and is doing a color-by-number here with me. His sunburn isn’t bothering him any more, but he didn’t feel like going in the lake this afternoon.
LOL, I remember listening to that on my two-transistor radio!
I absolutely LOVE the Monkees! They did such doggone good work! My son called them the “Muckies.”
I was in San Diego, my son was a really short little person, and music was mostly my anchor.
My son could sing ALL the top hits, in tune! His favorite was “Good Vibrations.” He would dance and sing, even though he was only two!
We’d watch “The Monkees” and he was ecstactic! He never sat to watch them...he had to stand so he could dance!
Be back later. I'm about to dive into the last phase of the project I'm wrapping up so I can ship it off today, and it's going to require enough concentration I'm even going to pull out the MP3 player for background music.
I remember that and similar records helping to destroy one of the best musics that ever came our way, if you ever heard real bossa nova. (Stan Getz/Charlie Byrd; Getz/Gilberto, Astrud Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Luis Bonfa, Laurindo Almeida, et. al.)
Good luck! Der Prinz took a notion to call Windstream, our phone and internet company, yesterday afternoon, and ended up getting us a new phone contract (we’ll be able to call long distance from the house phones again) with a reduction of rates on everything, and he signed up for Netflix and is getting an adapter-thingie so we can watch streaming video on the tv. I’ll be able to watch “Miami Vice” without buying the DVD sets!
We’re very involved in Latin music (Latin American, not Latin-Italian ;-), but I’ve never really taken a shine to Bossa Nova. Do you have a YouTube link or something to a good performance?
The first 45 I owned was “To Know Him Is To Love Him.”
The first LP was Tommy Edwards. Wish I still had that!
My second LP was Gershwin’s “Rhapsody In Blue.” What a contrast, eh?
Good luck to you!
But it should have enough charge now to start playing. Don't think I'll put the Monkees on here in the office. *\;-)
Later...

Coming right up . . .
Astrud Gilberto with the New Stan Getz Quartet, "The Girl From Ipanema", from a 1964 television performance.
Stan Getz & Charlie Byrd, "One Note Samba", video montage accompanying . . .
