Weekly Roundup - Living On Nothing Edition Category: Roundups | Comments(15)
Did you hear about the guy that lives on nothing? No seriously, he lives on zero dollars a day. Meet Daniel Suelo, who lives in a cave outside Moab, Utah. Suelo has no mortgage, no car payment, no debt of any kind. He also has no home, no car, no television, and absolutely no creature comforts. But he does have a lot of creatures, as in the mice and bugs that scurry about the cave floor hes called home for the last three years.
To us, Suelo probably sounds a little extreme. Actually, he probably sounds very extreme. After all, I suspect most of you reading this are doing so under the protection of some sort of man-made shelter, and with some amount of money on your person, and probably a few needs for money, too. And who doesnt need money unless they have completely unplugged from the grid? Still, its an amusing story about a guy who rejects all forms of consumerism as we know it.

Thank you for the downloading files, wonderful to know that all our work is saved and not just yesterday’s efforts.
LOL, almost as good as writing a book, by a group effort.
It happened again. The deacons paid him a visit. He never touched his wife again...
After he got a taste of what it felt like from the deacons.<<<
We need more deacons in the world, for I am sure that the wife beating is on the increase, and the women are often the ones doing the beating, I am amazed at the number of family fights the police answer in a shift.
With the stresses of today, it is easy to understand that tempers and self control are at a flash point.
I heard a call the other night, for an 8 year old, who was so out of control, the parents were locked in a bathroom and calling for the police to come and control him.
I have heard several calls for help in controlling kids as young as 6 years old.
Not for me, even now, I lived with it as a kid and swore that the first man who hit me, would be a dead man, it is fine with me that no one ever tested me.
Best defense is being alert and weakest point of your defense is YOU ! Dont let yerself down !<<<
I don’t open my door to anyone, I talk to them through a window, it is high up and only shows my head.
I lived here for 30 years with no problems, then one day heard the door open and looked down the hall to see a creep halfway in the door, I screamed and he said “oh, I didn’t think anyone was here” and backed out, I went to the window and told him if he ever set foot on my property again he was dead and I haven’t seen him again.
Did see the guy, as he tried to put my spare truck tire on his van with a flat tire, and when asked what in the hell he was doing, he said “I thought that I could get a tire here” , LOL, put his flat back on and drove away.
I live in the country, 300 foot off the road, so he saw a pickup and knew the tire would fit and it was going to be easy pickins for him.
I don’t go out and most are not sure if I am still alive or that crazy woman who lives in the old mobile with all the junk.
Suits me, anything to keep the fools away.
But it needs my wisdom-of-the-ancients garlic soup recipe to keep you healthy in case Obamacare passes.<<<
If it is that good, then you are right, we need the recipe and it is only you that has it to post....LOL
Glad you found us, join in and don’t worry, if we will welcome your recipe, for I am betting someone will and many don’t say so for a year or more.
Welcome to the thread.
Sheesh...lots of catching up to do.<<<<
Read away, that is the only way to catch up.
Do listen to the police scanner for your town, it is an amazing thing, hearing so much that you never knew was going on.

A group of Navy ships is under quarantine after several dozen sailors and Marines on board tested positive for swine flu.

Navy officials say they are now quarantining an undetermined number of crew members with flulike symptoms on four ships that are part of the USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, which arrived in Hawaii on Friday. The ships are docked at or near Pearl Harbor.

The information contained in the comments is very telling. Somehow, I don’t think we will be reading about it anywhere soon in MSM. I can’t hardly read about what they do to our service men and women with these vaccines. Our son almost died from a vaccine given to him while he had the flu and in the military.

Hmmm, “October Surprise”? For them to be saying this, I wonder what they know.....
[From my memory, a few years ago, there was a big terrorist connected bust, Hezbollah related, as I recall.
They had a massive baby formula theft ring going and they also were set up to change the labels and restamp the containers, so that out of date formula, was showing a new date.
If I had a baby, I would never buy formula, at the corner store, for they sell the changed products to small stores.
Better to buy a goat.

Organized Crime and Retail Theft: Facts and Myths
Small, loosely connected gangs illustrate the challenge of stopping organized retail theft
By Michael Fitzgerald
September 28, 2009 CSO
When police caught a thief trying to steal $4,500 in goods from a Publix supermarket near Lakeland, Fla., the local sheriff didn’t treat it like just another shoplifting case. He assigned a detective to look into it.
As part of Operation Beauty Stop, a seven-month investigation, a detective found a ring of thieves hitting stores throughout central Florida. They stole from Publix, Sweetbay, Target, Wal-Mart and other stores. They could hit 15 stores in a day, stealing roughly $3,500 of goods per store. Goods were resold through Lola’s Discount Warehouse, which operated on eBay and at area flea markets. When officers moved in and arrested 18 people, they estimated that over a five-year period, between $60 million and $100 million worth of goods were stolen. “It’s staggering,” says Grady Judd, Polk County’s Sheriff.
Also see Mall Rats: Shoplifting and Organized Retail Crime
And well organized. The Polk County ring used to fill shopping lists for Lola’s owner, Theresa Parrish. Another ring, busted by Polk County Sheriff’s officers in March, had operated for seven years, recruiting illegal aliens to steal baby formula. It had a facility in North Carolina where it could relabel cans. That ring probably stole $17 million worth of baby formula over seven years.

The U.S. national motto is often “shop ‘til you drop.” In times like these, the corollary becomes “steal it and deal it.” In retail stores, crime rings have found what Sheriff Judd calls a “soft underbelly” of American law enforcement. He says even retailers often think of retail theft as “a minor event,” he says. The penalties for shoplifting are low, retailers have little interest in making it harder for legitimate consumers to get at goods. Meanwhile, bloodless crimes often don’t make pulses race, even in the 28 percent of cases where traditional organized crime seems to be involved.
Perhaps that’s why retail criminal rings offer a melting-pot view of America. “It’s an unbiased crime,” says Casey Chroust, senior vice president of retail operations at the Retail Industry Leaders’ Association (RILA). It happens everywhere: urban stores and rural retailers, mom-and-pop shops and Wal-mart. A National Retail Federation survey found that 92 percent of retailers said they’d been the victims of organized retail theft in 2008. Organized retail thieves swiped between $15 billion and $30 billion in goods a year. Their favorite targets: razor blades, infant formula, teeth whiteners, Oil of Olay, diabetes-related supplies, branded apparel, consumer electronics and Blu-ray discs.

Nationwide Voluntary Product Recall of Neocate® Infant Specialized Formula Lot P91877
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - September 28, 2009 - Nutricia North America, Inc. (”Nutricia”) has contacted customers to undertake the voluntary recall and replacement of one (1) lot of the specialized infant formula product, Neocate®. This recall involves a limited quantity of individual cans (approximately 3700) from Lot # P91877, and does not affect any other Neocate® products or lot numbers.
Neocate® is a hypoallergenic dry powder formula packaged in 14 oz. cans distributed to pharmacies, health care professionals and consumers nationwide. Neocate® is not intended for general use and is usually given to infants in the care of health care professionals. The affected cans were distributed in commerce between September 1, 2009 and September 11, 2009.
Nutricia has been informed by the manufacturer of Neocate® that, due to a one-time blending error, a limited quantity of the individual cans of Neocate® Infant (original formula) contain protein levels lower than that declared on the label.
This limited formulation concern does not present any immediate risks of injury or other adverse health consequences. No adverse events have been reported as a result of this issue. The affected product from Lot # P91877 has a reduced protein level equivalent to 1.75g protein/100kcal - a shortfall of approximately 0.05g protein/100kcal based on the U.S. infant formula minimum requirement of 1.8g protein/100kcal. However, the affected product from Lot # P91877 continues to meet the minimum guidelines for protein established by the World Health Organization.
Although short-term consumption of product from the affected batch is very unlikely to cause immediate nutritional issues, longer term consumption might influence the healthy growth curve in certain infants.
Because the quality and safety of Nutricia’s products and the well-being of its customers are the company’s primary concerns, the voluntary recall has been initiated. The Food and Drug Administration has been apprised of this recall. The company apologizes for any inconvenience to our customers and consumers.
Recommended Action to be Taken by the User
The affected products have the Lot # P91877; this number can be found at the bottom of each can and on the right hand side of the case label.
Parents, caregivers, and health care professionals who have questions or concerns related to the consumption of the affected product are advised to contact the Nutricia North America Customer Helpline at 1-800-365-7354, option 8-6061. We can be reached during normal business hours Monday through Friday from 8:30am EDT to 5:00pm EDT.and for special extended hours 8:30 am EDT to 8:00 pm EDT on Monday and Tuesday, September 28 and 29th.
Working with Nutricia, the manufacturer of Neocate® has implemented appropriate corrective and preventative actions, to ensure that this blending error in the manufacture of the product is not repeated. Nutricia will continue to carefully monitor the situation and follow-up with its customers to ensure prompt replacement of the affected product.
