Deputies say a Cumming woman was concerned enough to take her sick pet to the veterinarian, but left her 22-month-old son alone in a hot SUV.
Dawn Myers, 38, was arrested on charges of cruelty to children.
Deputies were called to a Cumming vets office on Thursday for a report of a child unattended inside a Ford Expedition, said Capt. Frank Huggins, spokesman for the Forsyth County Sheriffs Office.
The child was in the car for 30-40 minutes, Huggins said. The engine was not running and the windows were rolled up.
Myers took her two other children inside the vets office, but left the baby alone in his car seat, Huggins said.
Paramedics rescued the baby and transported him to Northside Hospital-Forsyth. He was treated and released to relatives, Huggins said.
Deputies said the temperature in the Expedition was around 90 degrees.

>>Don’t EVEN go there!!! <<
Where?
I’m sorry, but this woman took her pet to the vet and left her baby in the car.
No need to yell. Colors don’t make you correct.
If you would like to converse, that would be just fine.
Unless, of course you put pets on equal footing with children. Then I can see why you flipped out.
Unbelievable!
Yeah, you might have a point. Maybe the person watched the woman leave the child in the car, then called police. Probably didn’t go and get the woman because he/she did not want to “get involved.” In other words, the person didn’t want a confrontation. So then, if they saw the woman do what she did and did not call her out, then that person is a coward. If the person just stumbled upon the scene, then that person just acted as they saw fit-—call the police. Pretty stupid; should have aired the car out to ensure the safety of the child. But, hindsight is 20/20.
Oh well, at least the child is safe.
See what happens when SUV’s and children mix?/s
You call the cops.
You wait 90 seconds.
No cops, you get two witnesses and you break a window.
When the cops arrive, you tell them you called it in, and you were the one that broke the window after waiting 90 seconds.
The only way to go if its hot out.
You’re right...
People don’t kill people; SUV’s kill people!
Headline should have read:
“Attempted Murder of child by Hot SUV”
Ah but the animal-rights wackos are always saying “A Boy is a Dog is a Pig is a Rat”
meaning that a human is equal in value to any animal.
I don’t either unless the Vet office had what time she signed in and then they would know. Why take two of the kids and not the baby is what I would like to know.
I live in Cumming and I’ve never seen a Vet’s office that was so big somebody couldn’t have gone into the lobby, yelled “Hey, there’s a Ford Expedition out there with a baby still in the back seat” and not have it be heard in every corner of the building. Either they called the police and made no attempt at all to find the mother or they told the mother and she refused to get the child out. There is something missing in this story.
Heck, I don't leave my babies (ages 3, 7, and 9) in the car to run into a convenience store to buy smokes. They come with me!
The only time they stay in the vehicle without me is when I'm pumping gas, and I'm paying AT THE PUMP!
I don’t know any details of this case. I just want to say or ask has anyone thought just how easy it is to accidently leave a child in a carseat?
I have a new child myself and with the way carseats are backwards in the back I can see it happening. You must ALWAYS be aware of this possibility. I live in Texas where a mistake like this is very quickly fatal. I can’t think of anything more horrible.
One smart trick I read, a woman wrote on another thread, is to attach your purse onto the car seat, when you put your child into it. No woman ever forgets their purse when leaving a vehicle, therefore you will always remember your child.
This wasn’t a new baby. I could actually understand this more if it was an infant. The baby was 22 months old.
At that point, they are running around on their own. Mom didn’t notice that the 2 year old wasn’t getting into everything?
I don’t think so.
She got two other children out of the car. I would bet that they were in the backseat too.
And also, let me add that I was on board defending the mom who left her baby in a stroller on a subway. The mom flipped out when she realized what she had done and picked up the baby at the next stop. I assumed she fell asleep and was confused by sleep deprivation.
I don’t like rear facing carseats in the back either. I do see where this is a recipe for disaster.
But 22 months old?
That’s really not that smart. Perhaps that would work with newborns, unable to do much, but anything much older will work and reach to get that purse-—and whatever might be inside-—medications? Pretty dangerous.
I would guess that someone from the vet’s office called?
You’re probably some older woman with cats....
